Never expected that the first place I would find out about this was the new issue of TIME Magazine!
Millicent Patrick: The Lady from the Black Lagoon by Mallory O'Meara
Millicent Patrick’s contribution to special effects proved to be just the latest chapter in a remarkable, unconventional life, from her youth growing up in the shadow of Hearst Castle, to her career as one of Disney’s first female animators.
Will hit bookstores March 5, 2019

Reading the reviews, it sounds like too much of the book's 336 pages are dedicated to pointing out industry misogyny and speculating what the author thought the subject might have thought about this or that.
Could be interesting for the facts that are presented - but sounds like the writing style would make it a tough read.
I would like to hear what any UMA members thought of the book before I buy.

I’m hoping my library will stock the book. I’d really like to know more about Millicent Patrick and her journey creating the look of my favorite Universal Monster. I’m hesitant about the book however because the reviews I’ve read indicate the focus blurs between the subject and the author. While I’m sure the author’s personal experiences are noteworthy and deserve a read as well, I’m not sure that’s what I’m looking for in a book about Ms. Patrick.

I just finished reading the book, courtesy of my local ( cyber) library. As other people noted, the book does bounce around between its subject matter and the author's personal experiences. However, the approach worked well for the story being told. By the time I finished reading the book I was angry for the treatment of Ms. Patrick. I found it incredibly unfair that she was fired after completing her promotional tour for CFTBL. Noting that she either worked on, or created the look of the last two great Universal monsters (This Island Earth and Creature) I can't help but wonder what other iconic monsters she might have designed had she stayed on with the company? Having a daughter of my own, the text really made me think about the treatment women are subjected to in the industry. I hope the author, a filmmaker herself, has a successful career with more a enlightened work environment.
