Creature Walks Among Us is fine. Revenge of the Creature is ridiculously hazy. It's absurd. Now~  Have you heard anything about Revenge disc replacements being sent out yet? Because I aint heard squat and I want my disc replaced so I can be done. This was my last hurray on these films....upgrading to blu. So I sold off my dvds. Only to discover Revenge is crap quality. So i am somewhat....ticked. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Some folks on Blu-ray.com said they’ve received shipping notices for the replacement discs so we should have more details soon hopefully.

I waited until Amazon briefly had a 50% off sale for the entire collection for $69.99 and pulled the trigger. My set arrived before Halloween and it did indeed have the new barcode sticker over the old one. The first thing I did was insert the "Revenge of the Creature" disc into my blu-ray player and it looks great, so I know the corrected discs are in circulation.

Have you checked both the 3D and 2D versions?? Apparently the ‘corrected’ disc has more or less corrected the 3D version while the 2D version apparently still looks soft. Apparently Universal did some tinkering with the right eye image making it a bit softer than the left eye image and it’s the right eye image that’s used as the 2D version. This was a comparison someone posted on Blu-ray.com.

I would say the good image is on top (left eye on the site); it's film so the grain should be there no matter how much restoration is done.  It also must be noted that you aren't seeing either of these images in true HD when they are posted on the net.

The Left Eye, or the first image that appears when you open that link, is supposed to be the ‘better’ one.

....nope, I am talking about the actual disc I watched on blu ray. It's worse than the old vhs I had. No clear details. Let's put it this way: my public domain Wasp Woman dvd has more clarity. Not kidding.

I was reading through Home Theater Forum and found this reply;

"Okay, as promised, I've now examined the contents of the disc. There are three separate movie files, all three are AVC. The side-by-side file of Revenge is 14.6 GB, the 2D file is also 14.6 GB, and the Creature Walks Among Us is 14.0 GB. Since the side-by-side and 2D are completely separate files, it makes no sense that the 2D file should look degraded. There are no subtitles included in the side-by-side file. By comparison the Creature From the Black Lagoon Blu-ray is MVC and 30GB file."

From what I know/understand of 3D Bluray there is no reason to have a separate 2D file of Revenge of the Creature; when you watch a 3D Bluray in 2D you are just watching one of the dual 3D images.  There is no reason why Revenge cannot be presented in MVC with a 30GB file and still fit Walks Among Us on the same disc.

Didn't post those pics. Have no idea. I just put my disc in to see if I have a defective one, since someone finally decided to tell us all what to look for. Sure enough, the 3D version is spilt in half. Two shots one on right, one on left and line separating them in the middle. 2D version is soupy and soft and low on clarity.  All I am telling you is; MY DISC IS CRAP. If you got a good one...you did good. As for me: I got a rock. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Sounds like you got the first defective disc, the one that initially started this whole replacement issue.

From reading through the forum where those were posted, this is the "corrected" disc; the problem people are having with that is while it looks better than the original, someone went overboard with the DNR/noise reduction on the right eye image; which removed the film grain and softened details.  This wouldn't really be an issue if while watching in 2D you got the left eye which was left alone.  The DNR was done by Universal and not part of the original restoration done to the film; perhaps whomever authored the final product felt the grain was causing a 3D snow effect?  They just chose the wrong side to mess with, as no one would notice the issue if it had been done to the left image.

Thanks! I thought one was the "before" and the other the "after".  ;D

I'm guessing this replacement disc version is about as far as Universal is going to go with any fixes. If the 2D REVENGE looks better now (though still not as great as it could have) than the original release, I would buy the revised set. My favorites are the first and third films anyway.  Any one know when it might possibly be available to buy again?
