Unidentified rare Mummy photos...any help?
« on: September 20, 2018, 10:16:43 PM »
I picked up these two vintage stills off Ebay, and have no idea what they could be from.

The Mummy makeup is very similar to Christopher Lee's in the Hammer version, but it's clearly NOT Lee. It looks like it could possibly be a makeup test? Or even pics of Lee's stunt double?

Problem is...both are stamped on the reverse as follows:

LOUIS GOLDENBERG
PARAMOUNT PHOTO SERVICE
1088 HART
HUNTINGTON WOODS, MICH.
WO. 3-6232

Paramount never made or released a Mummy movie to my knowledge.  Any ideas?

I don't think PARAMOUNT PHOTO SERVICE has anything to do with PARAMOUNT PICTURES. The same stamp can be seen on the back of photos taken at local Mich. area events in the late 1950s.

Maybe it was for local publicity for the 1959 movie? It's certainly an interesting find, whatever it is.

That it is...the makeup is really good. Almost too good for a local movie theatre promotion I think...looks professional.  Did Universal do any type of promotions for the 1959 film?

One thing is certain...it's clearly based on the 1959 Hammer makeup/costume.
I wonder if it's possibly Lee's stunt double?

It's a real mystery for sure.

Do a google search on the name city and state. I came up with a lot of hits. And all connected to the Paramount Photo Service.  I'm guessing he was a local area entertainment photographer. Other shots of a big Elvis movie display in a theater, actress Molly Picon, store openings, all mid 50s. Could those mummy photos have been a COSTUME for a live appearance? You see these kinds of photos on sale at ebay often.
