I'm sure most of us can come up with at least a couple. To me though, with is being a CLASSIC song I think that this cover smokes the original done by The Animals. Agree/Disagree and post your own.

I like everything except the vocals, those don't come close to the power-soul and emotion of Eric Burdon's.

I like these two; one by White Zombie and the other by Rob:

Let me think of some to post. I shall return, shortly.

ZH I am going to respectfully disagree with both opinions. Especially on the Brick House. I posted in another thread here that the Commadors original is just outta sight pure FUNK.

Going back House In N.O we all know there quite a few covers of this icon song and some are good and some plainly SUCK.
So here is another version one of my top 10 metal bands of all time. Five Finger Death Punch.

I don't think I've even heard Words of Love but the Hendrix version of All along the Watcher is actual my favorite Hendrix song. I just wish tht EVERYONE would forget that this was a Bob Dylan cuz that version just totally sux. Hendrix OWNS this and probably always will. 8)

So waaay back in the 70's there was an over looked band called Lucifers Friend. IMHO one of the greatest all out and really overlooked band from that era.
So saying that in the various music threads I have posted a few things to try to get another older crowd around them.
So trying to not be long winded I am posting a song called Ride The Sky which was redone years later after the original. As much as I LOVE Helloween for a very clean power metal band I have to say again in MY opinion that they did a very cool version total clean power metal BUT the original especially with that big horn sound just can't be reproduced.  Lucifers Friends piece comes at my head with the guitars and alright Aura of total f&*%ing doom and Angel Gabriel sounding like the end of the world is upon us got lost in the mix.

So LF version total rock/metal doom. Helloweens version is very clean almost happy power metal. Which in my book you do not want to say happy metal in the same conversation.

Interesting topic. Faith No More is one of my favorite bands. I think they stand out in this category. They've recorded some killer versions of interesting songs, including:

I Started a Joke (by the Bee Gees)

Spanish Eyes (Engelbert Humperdinck)

I Wanna F%#* Myself (GG Allin)

Easy (the Commodores)

Just google these and you'll find them. FNM crazy talented imo.

I don't know if I would say "better," but I think Deftones record some rad cover songs. If you're unfamiliar with them, they're an alt-metal band. Real heavy band, but they have an ethereal sound----not traditional metal at all. Really influenced by 80s new wave actually. They've recorded some rad versions of the following songs:

Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want (the Smiths)

Night Boat (Duran Duran)

The Chauffeur (Duran Duran)

To Have and To Hold (Depeche Mode)

If Only Tonight We Could Sleep (The Cure)

Drive (The Cars)

Highly recommend this band and these songs

No worries, as Geezer said, I don't really consider these better than the original; just different.  A cover is always better (ok, not always) if the band doing it makes it their own while still capturing something from the original.

I'm sure that some of you old farts are going to lambaste me but imo this just SMOKES Deep Purple all the way around.
