Top 10 Toys That Almost Killed Me - JEFF DUNHAM
« on: July 18, 2018, 02:06:10 AM »
Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham is a lover of old toys.  He likes to buy old (broken) toys from eBay and repair them.

Here is a video of him showing off some toys from his youth and sharing his memories of them:

And here is a small clip from another video that mentions a Marx Abominable Snowman that he is fixing:

Kinda fun.

So, did any toys actually almost kill him?

Naw.  Just toys that would not be made today.

I had a wood burning set when I was about 8.  I made all kinds of things with it.

I wish we could see his whole toy collection.

Hell, most boys carried a pocket knife to school (and everywhere else) when I was a kid. We also didn't wear helmets when we road our bikes.  This was way back, in the 20th century, of course. ;D

I still have an itty-bitty pocket knife hooked to my key-chain.  I always had a pocket knife.
Remember when Clackers got banned?

My parents bought us Click Clacks, jarts, and that wind-up Time Bomb...

I'm starting to think they didn't really want kids.

I remember when you could get a mini knife in the gumball machines!  I remember them being sold on larger vendor cards in the corner stores at the counter, in different colors, with the small chains attached to hang them. All the toy guns that REALLY looked real at the time, all the spring-loaded guns and missile firing toys from way back that really had some power to them, of course for us kids back then the stronger the spring, the more we liked it. Heck, almost every kid back then, including me, had a daisy BB gun,or something similar. We would ride our bikes through the woods with these items almost all the time.

Did anyone else play a game called 'knife baseball" which involved flipping a jack knife?

I thought that was bizarre when I first saw it. Now of course it's law. That's the way it's been for decades now; whatever's bizarre soon goes on to being widely accepted and then becomes law.

We used to practice throwing our pocket knives to see who get them the deepest into wood. Remembering that from the good ol days I bought my daughter a set of throwing knives two Christmases back. She loves them and is a way better shot than me! We would also ride around on our bikes with our 22 rifles and no one even blinked. Times have definitely changed....

In the 1950's, kids often rode in the back of open pickup trucks, with the untethered family dog.

I tried to get the Kenner Boba Fett figure with the shooting rocket (we knew about it because the black panel on the packaging was removable and my father was the type to inquire about banned things--so he sent a letter to Kenner in my name) and they sent me back a letter lecturing me on toy safety.

The Shogun Warriors large size figures that did fire rockets had a really really nasty Godzilla flying fist rocket. My brother had the Godzilla and would often hit me with the detachable fist rocket and it hurt like hell. I shuddered to be around that Godzilla.

We still did that in the early seventies as twenty year olds!
