I was always pleased that the Mole People were given a slightly larger 'population' and disappointed - of course - that all of us couldn't have enjoyed far more Metaluna's.  But all this talk about the Creature being a Universal monster?  OK, fine... for me, though, he'll always be a FarSide monster...

It really isn't. Gary Larson is awesome. But whatever.
Maybe if you think about it too much it seems weird but I don't think it's meant to be taken that way.

Maybe it's because the Creature is able to get better looking babes than that?

Yes I just see him as more part of the lesser known third wave of Universal Monsters.

First wave: Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Invisible Man, etc.

Second wave: Wolf Man, Mad Ghoul, Kharis, Ape Woman, etc.

Third wave: Gill Man, Metaluna Mutant, Deadly Mantis, etc.

I'm kinda on the Fence over Metaluna Mutant as a Universal Monster. On one hand the Mutants got the Iconic look going for it...but on the other hand it was lacking screen time and there were probably more than one Mutant on Metaluna.
Verdict : He makes the 1st backup reserve.

Mole Men had more screen time but there were certainly a lot of them.

He had a themed section (albeit small) at the Universal Monsters restaurant at Universal Studios, so I say he counts.  He's also had figures in all of the newer Universal Monsters toy lines.

I remember once reading online that The Mad Ghoul was originally considered to be in House of Frankenstein. (Along with Kharis, Ape Woman, and maybe Invisible Man. But they cut it down to three.)
But I have no proof of this other than reading it online, so I dunno.

This drives me crazy too. Don't get me wrong - I love the biggies - but where is the love for Dynamo Dan 'The Man Made Monster' and The Mole Men! I love the 40s and 50s monsters too.

Yes...doesn't every film eventually find its audience?  OK, wise guy.... Just for that crack, you will be provided with a link to watch it for free. So **raspberry sound effects here**
