Indiana Jones
« on: November 25, 2017, 04:23:15 PM »
Not sure if there was a topic for this before but if there was, feel free to merge. I searched and nothing came up.

Any fans? One of my all-time favorite movie series and a big staple of my childhood. I love all the films and Indy is without a doubt one of my favorite film heroes of all-time. My ranking is sure to be controversial, but:

Temple Of Doom
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
The Last Crusade

Last Crusade I tend to like the least due to being too comedic and too much like the first two, but I still like it. Temple Of Doom has always been my favorite, dig the much darker, creepier tone and I actually like that the Nazis aren't the enemies in it. Especially with the nightmare-inducing Mola Ram.

I've understood that some folks degrade TEMPLE but I enjoy Kate Capshaw's constant screaming in so many scenes.  (I wonder if she had a Scream Double?  "Is Una O'Connor available?  No?  Well, maybe we can find someone like her?")

Raiders is my favorite.  I had one of my favorite memories with my dad seeing it.  We had such fun watching it together, we stayed to view it a 2nd time.  Never left the theater.😊

Must've been awesome to have seen Raiders back in the day when it first came out.

In a weird way Raiders influenced my career path. I had been a professional firefighter, but ran into health issues and had to change careers. I knew I didn't want the typical office job yet I was limited in my choices. After seeing Raiders I thought why not be like Indy; teach and then travel the world in my off time? So I did! I studied archaeology and history, taught school and traveled to a lot of cool ancient ruins. Thanks to that movie I had a great career!

Indy 5 was recently announced as being one of Spielberg's next projects, hope it finally materializes. Hard to believe Harrison will be nearly 80 by the time it's out. Hope it ends the series on a good note.

Should have left it alone after the original trilogy.

Mike, I was 51% glad they did Version 4.  I liked Cate Blanchett's character throughout and, in general, those scenes including the refrigerator in Atomic City and ants on the mound.

The punk was worthless and makes all of his scenes hard to tolerate.

John Hurt - good for that character.

That's two hits, one BIG stinkin' miss.

Then, there's my wonderment issue: "What would happen if Indiana and Marion got together again?"

CRYSTAL answered that question well enough.  That should be a third hit... but frankly, I'm confronted with the dilemma: my wonderments and fantasized storylines were better than the on-screen delivery.

I sometimes find myself echoing your comment: "Shoulda left it as a trilogy" but I'm glad to have the answer delivered, on-screen, even though nothing could have lived up to my hoped-for story.

I am truly dreading a Version 5, 6, etc.

That was kind of . . . underwhelming.

Was a big fan when it came out.

The ark opening is still an amazing scene but the story impact has worn off for me a great deal. It's not even in my top 50 films anymore.
But I didn't  see Crystal Skull because as soon as it looked like it was going to suck-I didnt want the same experience I had with the Star Wars prequels.

Crystal Skull really isn't nearly as bad as people say.

While I like it, I'm of the super-unpopular opinion that Last Crusade is the worst. It's still enjoyable but something about it just feels bland compared to the others.

I enjoy them all equally for the most part, minus TOD (sorry, RC!).
