Ill hop on board saying that to me, the Hasbro creature head is better than the sideshow, sculpturally.

Sideshow has never been afraid to spend the money on good paint apps. Hasbro, needing to have more mass market appeal and toy store friendly pricing doesn't have that luxury.

Also, my opinion is most valid because I have a degree from the Amazonian Ichthyological Society of Advanced Creature Likeness and form.   Est. 1954

I think the Hasbro head sculpt might be a bit more accurate than Sideshows. However, I think Sideshow's sculpt is more narrow because it is the Creature when he is breathing in or whatever way he is breathing when the fins retract. The Creature is one of the greatest make up/special effects suits of all time.

I completely agree!  A lot of people also dont give Chris Mueller the respect he deserves in the creation of the Creature suit and film in general!

I did a little write up about him on my (not updated for a while) blog:

It is now believed that Milicent Patrick was one of the major creators of The Creature costume. ;D

I still stand by Sideshow's Creature. Even the head sculpt is better (I'm not crazy about round-face Creature). None of that matters since you still have that wretched body to contend with. Look, the Hasbro head sculpts were very nice. So what? They have horribly disproportioned bodies and hideous paint jobs. I have to judge what is actually there ( not what could have been). I don't intend on dropping a couple of bills to get mediocre figures to look less mediocre. Everybody's crying about how these are toys sold at toy prices...bullsh#t. These carried a $29.99 list price (same as Sideshow's earlier releases... Dracula, Frankie, Wolfie, Phantom, Nosferatu, London After Midnight). I was buyer at an indie record shop and got them at cost ($14.99). Someone's going to get mad and throw a hissy fit, but I'm not the one keeping this debate going. If there are any factual inaccuracies in my post, please correct me. As far as feelings, I couldn't care less.

Not to steal the thunder from Dirtyhorse and his fabulous customization, but rather to make a point about quality; below is a picture of the Hasbro Creature I repainted. I further messed with the image in Photoshop, re-proportioning the head, hands and feet; and erasing those awful hip joints. You can see what an outstanding figure this MIGHT have been if there had just been adequate QA/QC. With a little extra time and effort, this could have been a highly desirable collector’s piece rather than just the “near-miss” it turned out to be. However, I wouldn’t lay all the blame on Hasbro’s shoulders; for the Star Wars line (the only Hasbro line that did have good QA/QC) I would guess that George Lucas (or someone from Lucasfilm) reviewed and signed off on each individual figure. Universal, on the other hand, seemed to rubber-stamp any design that came down the pike, no matter how good, bad or mediocre it was.

When times are dark, don’t consider art to be merely a distraction; rather, think of it as a lifeline-  Neil Gaiman paraphrase.

I agree, over all, the Sideshow is the superior Creature figure. I think they did a phenomenal job and I like that they created a sort of rubber suit for the figure just like in the movie. The 12 inch Sideshow Creature will hold up forever as one of the top Creature figures ever made. I own the Silver Screen version and it is nothing short of incredible!
