Brooklyn? Hipsters? In theory, the Munsters poking fun at hipsters and gentrification and other aspects of modern society could be really, really funny, so long as it wasn't too big a focus of the show. In practice, I could see this being a really cringe-worthy at staying "hip" and "with it" which will make it feel instantly dated.

What really gets me is when it says they're "determined to stay true to themselves". As I recall it, they didn't need to be "determined to stay true to themselves" because they didn't worry about it. They were just...themselves. They were comfortable being who they were without a care in the world. I'm sure the intention is going to be along the lines of "be true to yourself" and "love who you are on the inside" but rather than see them struggle to do so, I think it would send a far better message if they just stuck to the way the original show did it. Just have them be perfectly fine with the way they are and not worry about what other people think of them, especially hipsters from Brooklyn.
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? The Big Bad Wolf? The Big Bad Wolf! Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? Lala lala laaa...

I'm going to vote with the SPARE ME crowd.

"Marilyn" was never 'happy with herself', raised as a non-monster babe in a household of monsters.  That was part of HER charm.   Do they have her chanting mantras of "ommmm ommmm, be happy I'm a coifed blonde"?

Our kids and their friends watched this show over the years and, in the last 2, they hardly ever queue up an episode.  "I'm too old for it now, Mom" is their excuse.

Face it, this is a good 2-3-4 episode 'skit' and really doesn't have much follow-up.  Can Herman try out for the Dodgers and Leo Durocher?  (Or can only Jethro Bodine do that?)  Can Herman be dragged into a heist and end up driving, head on, into a patrol car?  How many times can Herman walk out onto the school stage with Eddie-as-Robot, Dad-as-Monster?

Will hot-rod hearses come back in style?

"Be true to themselves" - well, I think they'd have to immediately ditch just about every artifact in the original series.  Can you imagine an apartment building where neighbors keep swearing they hear a firebreathing dragon named Spot inside the stairwells?

I'd rather them do a crossover - Munsters in Matt Dillon's Dodge City.  Lily working as the saloon owner.  Herman never has to draw his gun because all the bad guys are frightened by his looks.  Grandpa's potions solve all, calm all.  Marilyn takes over as school-marm and Eddie does well in class then.

I vote with the "Spare Me" side.

Ai YI YI! I wouldn't mind if they did a CGI Munsters, I don't know who could do the voice for Fred Gwynne, but the great voice actor Billy West does a superb imitation of Al Lewis, so that would be a start.
I remember the one about 20 years ago with the late Ed Herrmann as Herman(!), Robert Morse as Grandpa, and Veronica Hamel as Lily- great cast! But then they blew it by getting wayyy too politically preachy.

Like Peter Cushing's CGI "resurrection", it's not impossible to bring these wonderful characterizations back, but you need to find the right voices and a good script with a chock full of hilarious topical cultural references of the day like the original series had.

Yeah.

I think the whole series was a great idea for a series of 10-15 min. skits - in some show made up of skits.

Kinda like watching The Three Stooges.  They were terrific short subjects at the movies.  But they made for lousy hour and a half, full-length features.  (Even with the original cast.)

Too bad they don't show cartoons at the movies anymore.  I could see a well done 7-8 min. animated cartoon series being fun.

The original cast was so sweet - hard to re-capture the charm of Fred & Al together.

I've seen no actors names attached yet. For HERMAN, Just get BRAD GARRETT, who played Robert on EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND and the problem is solved. The perfect size and voice. He even does an impression of Fred Gwynne as Herman in his stand up act. I beiieve SETH MYERS is named as Producer. I'm gonna give him a little hope in coming through with something above average. Can't recall if he had any involvement on the Saturday Night Live "Vincent Price" Halloween Special skits. (Bill Hader played Price.) But if they used those sensibilities, a new MUNSTERS could be wonderful!

Monsters For Sale, that's a great idea of including a Munsters "skit" enveloped in a show of skits.  Like the original Honeymooners were a 'skit' on Gleason's variety show; or like SatNiteLive, Laugh-In, SCTV, Fridays, InLivingColor, MontyPython, SmackThePony which were designed as collective skit shows.

All of those Skit-Shows can bore me because it's impossible for every skit to be interesting or attractING to every audience.  So, there has to be some manipulation of "track line-up" I suppose - put a Fast Number in at first, put slow numbers in the middle, put the Show Stopper at the end.

Could you accept a skit-series with THE MUNSTERS relegated to a 'mere skit', though?  That would be my concern: "I feel cheated - I'm expecting 30 minutes!"  (Of course, since a modern 30-min series is actually about 17-minutes in length - or less... well, that's another rant.)

It's a wonderful idea of yours, though.  Now, toss in some other interesting skits... FRIDAYS had a good Three Stooges cast for a few skits but they apparently avoided running those consistently as if they'd "wear them out".  Nyuck nyuck...

While Brad Garrett would indeed be a home-run of a Herman casting, I'm not sure this would help his career - it'd be a cliché choice, but yes, a Home Run Choice for us in the audience.   He might prefer a much younger fellow to sit around in MakeUp for hours on end.

Could you possibly install a Munsters skit with an Addams Family skit in the same show?

Bring back Calhoon Tubbs, by the way.  David Alan Grier's doing some poor-man's-Steve-Harvey show now... I bet Calhoon's got a song about it... wanna hear it?

Not perfect - but far, FAR the best of the reboots.

Does anyone remember the " APPLE" commercial for last year's Christmas season?
That was Brad playing the  " FRANKENSTEIN " monster in the commercial.
