Hammer's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA strikes again?
« on: May 15, 2017, 03:39:43 PM »
I may be behind the times on this; if so, apologies in advance as I ask an old question:  So I'm in Walmart in the wee hours Saturday to restock some supplies for the weekend, and I notice a stand-alone DVD of Hammer's version of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. A nice price at $7.96, but why this particular title as a solo, given it's been released to disc three times already? (A two double-sided DVD set, a four single-sided DVD set, and then the Blu-ray set.)  Were any of the other titles from Universal's Hammer boxed set given similar treatment?

I haven't seen hide nor hair of any of the other UniHammer titles.  I'm sticking with my BD set.

Yeah, now that I've got that Blu-ray set I'm good to go.  Just don't understand the mindset of releasing this one film as a stand-alone title.

There was no "Phantom" event (like a remake, or somethin'), that I know of, that would cause a release of old Phantom product?

I always liked this version of PHANTOM. It might even be my second favorite after Chaney Sr's. I have the original Universal Hammer DVD set and thought the prints were decent on all except this, so maybe I might go for it. Thanks for the heads up!
