My first monster toys!
« on: December 29, 2008, 02:09:44 AM »
While visiting my parents over the holidays, I did a little bit of basement-rummaging & found these guys. Not sure who made them, but they were always some of my favorites when I was a little tot.

Those are the Hairy Scareys made by Knickerbocker.

You have the complete set there. Their names are Frankie Baby, Count Drooly, Wacky Wolfie and Simple Simian.

I really like these little guys a lot. I got the Frankie years ago still in his package and finally picked up the Count and Wolfie awhile back still in their packages. Now I just need simple Simian, whose outfit by the way is very Planet of the Apes.

I've never run into anyone else who knew about these, that's so cool that you had them as a kid.
What year would you guess that you got them? There is no date on the package.

Great set. I've never seen all four together either, nor known anyone who had them as a kid. Very cool, thanks.

Hey my last post was #666!!!!!!!

You devil you. I've forgotten, what size are these. I know I always think they are taller than they actually are. There was only the one size, right?

I'm thinking around 1976.  I had them as a kid and loved them.

They're about 9" tall. Werewolf was always my favorite.
I was born in 1971, so 1976 seems about right for when they were released.

First I've seen of them. The one on the bottom left reminds of a Scooby Doo villain called The Creeper. :)
I'm guessing their hard to find? What about secondary market values? Can anybody shed some light on the subject?

Your monsters are in really nice shape.  How did you keep them so clean?

These are cute little guys.  They seem very familiar for some reason, though I can't remember when/where I might have crossed paths with them.  I know I've never owned any.

They've been packed away in my parents' basement, which is why they're in such good shape. Plus, I was one of those kids who probably enjoyed displaying my toys (in dioramas, etc.) more than playing with them, so most of my old toys are still in relatively new condition:)

My mom patched, re-stuffed, washed and repaired mine many times because I took one everywhere.
