I wonder who they think their target audience is?  Kids don't build kits, and don't care about Dracula per se- in large numbers anyway. The old timers either already have the kit, or would opt for an earlier 'Lugosi' issue- like the Monogram, which is easily accessible on ebay and cheap enough.

So these things will sit on the shelf not selling, and Revell will conclude monsters don't sell, which will put a damper on their future interest in producing anything "monster". Hurrah.

This is just too bad....what a poor-looking Dracula.
Oh,well~ after almost 50 years of first issue and reissues and reissues and reissues, I would think there would be enough of the original sculpt Aurora monsters in the world to take care of anyone who wants to build one.
Except for the completist, would another reissue of Aurora's Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolf Man, and the Mummy sell at all?

Buy these instead ;D

The thing that's scaring me about this kit is the lack of seeing a prototype...just this same photo ad (while the Mummy ad shows the kit).

I kind of wish that instead of doing another Monster, they would produce a styrene kit of another Frankenstonian/Monster character. Heck, I'll take Minnie from BRIDE for starters...then Maleva(sp?) from THE WOLFMAN would be cool.

Monster Bob - Frank is being careful in releasing images - Universal does not want any out there before approval of the final design is given.

Lucky I still have the originals from childhood, even if I didn't I wouldn't buy THIS Dracula.  I think tv horror nailed it: Clampett Dracula.  Does look like Granny.  The Mobius Frankenstein has my interrest, I also wish they showed a proto-type finnished image.

No WAY am i buying any of these...do you suppose they've ever even HEARD of Moebius or Polar Lights? If so, you'd think they would have known better than to peddle this kind of inferior crap. Maybe they're hoping these will appeal to kids , or something. The total lack of hobby stores or even model departments in chain stores reflect the fact that kids just aren't very interested in models these days. [which is a shame] On the other hand, when you do manage to find a store with a few kits in stock, they're usually just boring typical, generic car kits. Nothing like the stacks upon stacks of classic Aurora-Revell and Lindberg character kits that greeted me whenever i visited my local 5 & 10 as a kid.

This is horrible! Talk about destroying a classic. I am also glad I have the original Aurora and a spare Monogram and spare Polar Lights one. It looks like jr. has struck again. We are back to musical Dracula images. He is sacrificing his fathers memory for money. Nothing is sacred anymore.
Oh the pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A sad day for modelers!

I find it humorous that they want someone who actually cares about the film and its star to be sparse in releasing pictures before its approved,,,yet this hideous Revell Dracula head not only was approved but they seem proud of it. Ugh. The Dracula head looks like George Bush to me.

Now I can understand how most everyone feels about the revision of the Dracula kit and I agree that it is a terrible thing to do and that Bela Jr.'s licensing fees most likely have a lot to do with Revell's decision, but and you knew there would be a "but" here, if we want to encourage Revell to continue to release these kinds of classic kits and perhaps venture into new figure kit territory we should not boycott this particular release. I'm not saying buy it just to buy the kit and stock it away somewhere. If you don't have the Polar Lights or Aurora Dracula, buy one, there are tons of original style heads available (even I have a couple in my spares box). If this release of these kits is even a moderate success, who knows what the folks at Revell will do next. They do own all the old, existing Aurora molds and with encouragement of a monetary nature they might get the idea that there is a demand for these old kits.

Guys, i will buy them.  FOr years I have wanted to do conversions and dioramas but was reluctant to deface the classic images we hold dear.  Now I can bend, shape, mold and disfigure to my heart's content.  And I thin it'd be cool to have an Aurora Dracula in a scene fighting this "new sculpt" Dracula.

Is there any chance these are just prototypey-thing images and the releases will have the original heads anyway? Lugosi box art aside, I never thought the Aurora bore a Lugosi likeness particularly. In fact, in my youth not yet having seen the man in the role, for this reason I even assumed it might be Carradine.

Did Polar Lights pay Jr. to use the kit "likeness" of old, or the original Aurora art? Did manufacturers like Monogram previously pay Jr for the kit when that alone was depicted, and the Aurora art wasn't used? ... ?

I agree the Dracula brings to mind the revamped DC heroes kits of old. That second Superman looked like one of the Thunderbirds puppets, though I know some modellers actually preferred the new, 'spooky' Batman head.

Either way, I will probably buy at least one of these. The variations are interesting enough to warrant that for me, simply because they exist. Plus, and again this is just me, but this Drac is no worse than a hundred other generic or semi-generic figural depictions of The Count.

What a bone-headed decision to screw with something that didn't need screwin' with. I won't buy them. I'm insulted by their executive ignorance. Boycott these.

You're preachin' to the choir Rev.......I'm not touching these, and I'm actually looking to begin doing models with my son. What idiots.

How exactly has that policy of buying whatever is thrown at us benefited us thusfar?? We buy substandard, slipshod Universal video releases, and what do we get?? MORE substandard, slipshod Universal video releases. Rather than "Hey, there's a market out there, let's put out some quality product", we get "Hey,these fools will buy ANYTHING,so no need to nibble at our profit margins by releasing quality product."

Case in point, we're discussing "Kolchak" elsewhere on the MB. When the series was released, what was the result?? No extras,no expenditure on cleaning the images or enhancing the sound, not even a stinking documentary to accompany it. Nothing.

Normally I would agree with you, because your premise is logical and sensible. But Universal isn't as sensible as you.
