Which forum link Mike? Is there a way to upload directly to this site?

... so I came up with the idea of creating little Halloween "fun packs" from pillow boxes (the kind they stuff with mints or whatever and hand out as wedding favors), inspired by the 1960s Phoenix Candy "Frankenstein" box:

That's a fantastic idea! Good for you, and even better for the kids!

Those look absolutely awesome!

I have a couple of suggestions for you:

1- Since the Best Plastics flats are relatively expensive now you obviously can't use those, but plastic soldiers won't cut it. You can get neato plastic monster figures pretty cheap in Big Bucket Of Monsters tubes but those are too big to fit, so... buy a few cheap bags of Rings and Creatures at Dollar Tree around Hween and put one in every box.

Another possibility might be Zombie figures from Walmart:

They're small and skinny, but may still be a little too large to fit in the boxes with the other stuff (2" tall). I'm pretty sure Walmart still sells these (around $5 a bucket) but if they don't I have some extras I'll send to you.

2- Don't worry about a little veiled non-PC humor slipped in. We had it in the '60s with certain Horror Hosts so there is precedence. Everyone is too touchy these days about every little thing. Just my opinion.

I'm in full agreement! There are loads of little monstery Halloween figures/trinkets that would fit the spirit of the box better than toy soldiers.

 :)

We've been adding Halloween themed figures and such in with the treats to the kids Halloween bags these past three Halloweens. We've even made the Halloween bags gender specific!

Boys' Treat Bags 2014

Girls' Treat Bags 2014

Boys' Treat Bags 2015

Girls' Treat Bags 2015

The only actual difference between the boys' and girls' bags was that the boys got dinosaurs while the girls got unicorns or winged horses. We purchased bags of these cheap at Target.

Wow Hepcat, I need to bring my kids around to your door this Halloween as those bags you give away are packed. I bet there's a queue around the corner if word has got out!

Great selection though.

Whoa, Dave! That's a haul no matter who you are!

I made my first pass at the play money last night and cleaned it up some today:

My idea is to use the same layout with a variety of different monsters in the middle.  I printed one out today to test, and it was OK, but I really would like to find a different type of paper for it.  I'm thinking about linen paper, the kind you use to print resumes.  That could get expensive (compared to using regular printer paper, which I already own), but I'm looking at 10 bills per page, so it shouldn't be too bad.  It might push the project closer to $110.

I'm betting you get a number of requests from UMAers for sets of the bills as well as the boxes.

I'm telling you, man, if this guy just has extras of this stuff printed up he could sell enough of it to monster collectors to fund the whole project. That way the TOTs get their treats, the collectors get some cool pieces, and he gets back the money he spent.

Horrorhunter, I'm convinced!  Once I get them put together this summer, I'll put some up for sale.  I never dreamed there would be any interest in this beyond, "Hey, that's a cool idea for trick-or-treaters," but between the messages on here and the PMs I've received... I guess there is!

Today, I tried printing the money fronts and backs together... it didn't work out so well.  I'm not sure why, but I still have some work to do in getting everything to line up just right.

All I can say for sure is that I'm interested in purchasing a full set of the boxes with the contents (unsealed) and I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount over your costs plus shipping. I can't speak for anyone else but this stuff gets me excited, and I'm pretty sure there are other UMA members who would be interested in buying a set as well. I look at it as a win/win...I'm adding fun stuff to my collection AND I'm helping fund your good work in getting the treats out to the kids. Plus, it's something else to look forward to getting around Halloween. Win/win!  :)

I assume both images are the same size. Make sure both images are cropped (no extra space around the image) and center them when printing.
