That's a lot more likely than me ever being praised for anything I did on purpose.
Your wise choice of searches and persistence led to you attaining the binder much more than luck. Intelligent, knowledgeable, and energetic, yes...definitely not dumb. You deserve it. Congratulations!  :)

I hope you find a GREAT SPOT to display the binder, possibly by your pencil sharpener collection.

I'll make you cry. When those 3 ring binders first reared their heads, there was a large quantity of all 3 characters found. I bought a bunch and Bill Bruegman bought the rest. All store stock in a barn or something, The kicker was the late 1980s price: $3.00 each, as many as you wanted.

I bought a set of the binders from Larry and Gracie Eisenstein that had a large supply of them at $10 per binder back in ’84 or ’85. Bruegman eventually bought them out. Probably from the same find.

Bob,
Since there were a large number of the binders, do you recall seeing the cardboard cases they were distributed in? If so, was there any manufacturer information on them?

I remember asking but I don't think there was anything special about the box- even an address. I would have gotten them if there was ANY reason to, at the time.

There is no question in my mind these are Hassenfeld Bros product.

My father-in-law was a four color printer for years, and always brought goodies home. They likely printed thousands of the full color monster art in sheets for the box lids of the HB monster paint sets. That exact same printed sheet could be glued to a thicker piece of cardboard, cut by an industrial guillotine paper cutter, and viola. Instant binder art. Just seal it in the plastic.

I'm pretty sure there s a size difference between the two. The binder is likely larger than the paint-by box and the image on the binder is cropped.

So you reprint in a different size. Not hard to do, and art is identical, and obviously shot off the same original art, which I would love to find.

Well, yeah, but you said leftovers printed for the paint-by boxes.

You sure about the size? I ain't, but it's no mystery who made the binders to me.

I don't know the box measurements, but looking at one photo, the art on the box could be 12" high (same as the binder), but the image on the binder is cropped some. Anybody out there got one of the paint-by boxes?
