I'm loving the direction this thread has taken.

It is great to learn so many details about these paint sets.  I never even knew the Pencil & Water Color set existed before.

So you believe the Horror House sets were a Sears exclusive?

That had been the common wisdom on it, and in a thread some months ago and again here, expert RPM put paid to it (for which I am ever so grateful).

Did you have a Horror House set as a kid? Do you have one now? How about any of the individual sets?

No, I'm about a decade and a half to young to have gotten one for Christmas in '63 or '64. I didn't know this set existed until sometime in the early 2000s when I found one and brokered it for a friend, and I still don't own one. I own the Creature oil paint by number set.

So you're saying that each Horror House set included one oil paint brush and two water colour brushes?

That is what I wrote (or meant by what I wrote) BUT looking at the catalogue add I am incorrect. It states the set contains three oil brushes and two watercolor brushes.

So just to summarize the info that's been provided on the Hasbro Horror House Paint and Pencil by Number set so far in this thread, it was sold exclusively through Sears and appeared in both the 1963 and 1964 Sears Xmas catalogues at a list price of $3.97:

It was the mother of all paint and colour by number sets! Included were:

1. The three individual 12" X 16" canvases from the Hasbro Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolf Man Paint by Number sets.
2. A whopping 36 8" X 10" sheets of sundry horror-themed scenes from the Hasbro Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolf Man Paint and Pencil sets for colouring with pencil crayons or water paints. The 36 sheets included cropped versions of the Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolf Man canvases mentioned in the line above.
3. Two racks of oil paints with a combined total of 28 vials.
4. Two mixed packs of pencil crayons and water paint cakes with a combined total of 20 pencils and 20 paint cakes.
5. Three oil paint brushes and two water paint brushes.
6. Two pencil sharpeners.

Here's a cool Captain Company ad from Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine for these binders:
