Hammer's Reptile and Phantom...again? These characters were available for years as 1/6th scale figures. I bought them and they're both really nice. With all of the characters that haven't been done yet why repeat ones already done as excellent 1/6th scale figures as Mego-style figures?  ???

Some folks don't collect 1/6 and only mego scale. I am sure those folks will be the ones to gobble these up. Satiating the mego buyers is good business.

We at the UMA are only a small percentage of DD's fan base. Probably about 10-20% honestly.

Gorgon will be the belle of the ball. She couldn't make a wave up on her own though.

I am sure we will eventually even see a 7 Golden Vampire Mego. One day.

Got to think of more than just our little group here.  That being said; I anxiously await Gorgon.

I am working on the start of a wave here at the house to debut very soon. One that is sure to make a lot of folks here very happy. If you like B monsters. Who have never had figures in mego scale....and 3/4 of which have had no figures in any scale.  Stay tuned.

I thought the reason DD started making "Mego-style" 1/9th scale figures is because they could be made for less money to lower the price point. 1/6th seems to be the preferred scale according to the comments I've read. 1/6th Reptile and Phantom were available for years on the DD website up until not long ago for not much more than the Mego-style price.

So you're saying that most of DD's business is from people who don't use the DD website?

Last question first: No, I am not. I am, however, saying most of DD's business simply isn't from us at the UMA. We at the UMA may prefer 1/6....but the world outside of the UMA apparently wants megos. Lots and lots of them.  ;)

The very fact that the 1/6 sat on DD's website for such a lengthy period shows the preference is clearly mego. if the megos had came first, they wouldn't have lingered on the website like the 1/6's have.

I doubt he sold 75 of each of each them before simply pulling them.

They probably under performed and he possibly even lost his shirt on them. Like The Karloff megos....that are still available.

His newer 1/6, when and if he offers them....are obviously  not the price of his older ones.  So comparing a new $85 mego with a character who was done up, when costs to manufactur the figures were much cheaper, isn't really fair. How much was the last 1/6 figure priced at he offered? Carradine Dracula? I am sure it wasn't $105 shipped.

The rise form $80 to $85 shipped for megos isn't that much of a hike, and when the next (hopefully Kharis one day) 1/6 figure is released, I am sure it's going to reflect Martin's direct shipping model and the increased cost of 1/6 parts and bodies, yet sparse demand.

I don't have a problem with the new wave....because I don't collect everything DD does. I also know there are folks who want Reptile and Lom in their collections....but wouldn't buy a 1/6 figure if you paid them. There is literally a guy on DD's Facebook page who chides Martin with every release he offers....because they aren't all in 1/6, and he won't buy megos, even if he likes the character. People have odd hang ups, lol.

I think some people will not buy megos because they are not realistic  looking enough. Proportions are sometimes off and the head sculpts are sometimes not that accurate. However, I think it is best to take each figure on its own merit instead of dismissing the whole scale. Also, for those that think this, I will refer you to the Mego DD Twisty the clown.

That's the way I feel. I don't care as much about scale as I do the wowzers factor. I think some folks just make that rule up to help define their collecting and also perhaps make it align with their budget they allot for toys.

Considering the variety of tastes there probably are many collectors who prefer the 1/9th (Mego). Most of the ones I've heard voice a preference prefer 1/6th. I figured the main reason for DD going "Mego" was the practicality of being able to make figures for less money so as to lower the cost to the customer and increase the chances to sell through on a given figure. That's an assumption, and may not be the case.

One reason people may have not been ordering the 1/6th Reptile and Phantom is that everyone who wanted one got one, at that time at least. I think another reason some of the 1/6th DD figures didn't sell well is that they weren't limited to a certain amount and numbered. That's a big deal to some collectors that want to be among the few to own a particular thing. I have no idea why the Karloff series still lingers on the website. I bought them and I'm happy to own them.

I prefer 1/6th scale in general but I judge each figure on it's own merits. DD have made some spectacular 1/9th scale figures over the years, as well as 1/6th. I enjoy displaying my DD Mego-styles and I'm glad I bought them when I could. I like the 1/6th scale figures even better, and it looks like those may be few and far between in the future so I'm glad I grabbed them when they were available.

I like both as well, and I would be most happy to purchase more in 1/6. Especially if he did Dr. Loomis in 1/6. Kharis the Mummy is the one I am presently cheerleading for, as I happen to know there is actually a chance of that one possibly happening.

I think a reason for the lacking sales of the Karloff line was character choices. I bet if he did The Ghoul and Mr Gray, they would sell out in one day. However, this is just speculation on my part.

I didn't suspect they would last the day. Just proves what I am saying: Martin spoiled us here at the UMA. DD has grown far outside our little community.  These went to mego lovers and monster lovers alike. I am sure some of us here scooped some up too.

There is a big DD 80's release coming early next year that will sell out in 2 seconds. This main character that has been proto-typed by companies, but never released while being demanded by collectors of every format for figures for this particular property.

Let me guess RJ MacReady from The Thing?  He has been prototyped too many times.

So, listen up kiddies, and don't be Creeps. There are Two new releases coming along rather nicely for next month's newsletter. Both are new territory that have been discussed for years. Better get them quick, almost as if your life depended on it.  Best keep the lights burning well into the night, and straight til dawn... so you don't get left in the Dark and miss out. Nothing to be Afraid of though if you are smart about it.  Shied away from food references this month and went straight for the hurt, Billy.

If you don't guess these, I can't help it....I did my best. >:D

I'm lost as ever Anton but it all sounds exciting and is there any drop date for them yet?
