Okay...in the "whatcha readin'" thread, I mentioned I was reading some ghost comics and books (I just love a good ghost story, and even a cheesy one!). A suggestion was made that some REAL ghost stories be posted somewhere. Aha! Here is a thread for that. I would love to hear your ghostly tales! Post one here if you have a few moments...we ghost lovers thank you!

Here's one for you. It appears president-elect Obama is going to be nose to nose with a ghost for a short while.
And no, this isn't a political comment in any way, but a relevant post (or ghost) in response to this thread.

OK. I'll bite. I'm not gonna say my house is "haunted" and I have not seen a ghost but there have been some really strange things that have happened since I moved in 8 1/2 years ago. Had I know that this would be an ongoing thing ,tho in spurts ,I would have written them all down.
I do believe in hauntings and such but always try to find a logical explanation first. We have had the following this happen.
Things disappearing and reappearing at a later time or date someplace it shouldn't be. Everyone misplaces things but these are not the case. How about a lost pair of sunglasses that I have looked all over the house for a couple times over a couple weeks suddenly show up on a chair I sat in a dozen times while they were missing. How about one of my Marx gangster figures disappear for over a month and show up on a different shelf. My wife commenting that she had lost her moms mass card from when she passed away. It remained missing for months. And then one day it just showed up on the top level of a small jewelry box that was opened almost daily. I am currently missing a small but $ collectible that had been on my TV for awhile and it just went "poof".And no , this was not something that could have vibrated off.
Phantom smells. Almost always in my den. I could go in there at 10 am on a Saturday and it smells like cigars. I don't smoke. Two hours later it now smells like chili cooking on a stove or cotton candy or pumpkin spice or bubblegum. The windows are closed. There is also the phantom radio. I'll be lying in bed and am woken up by a low volume radio. Sometimes it's classical music. Other times a talk show but I can't make out what's being said. I've also heard chanting. I'll sit up and look around and cock my head in different directions to see if it is coming from outside but at 3 am I doubt it. It usually fades off once I do this. I'll lie back down and a few mins. later it starts up. It is usually in the summer but not always. The only thing I can come up with is that a guy 2 doors down still has one of those huge old TV 8 foot dishes in his backyard. When my fan is on it could be that the oscillation speed may be picking up old radio waves that have been floating in space and picked up by the neighbors dish.
I've been half asleep and felt something sit on the edge of the bed but there is nothing there. Bangings on the outside wall on the 2nd story. The sound of something moving on one of my shelves. Turning a light off only to have it turn back on and going thru that 2 or 3 times. Waking up to find one of my dresser drawers half open when they were all closed the night before.
I've seen my cat totally asleep on his back in the bay window and in a split second he flips upright in the air cartoon like with all his fur puffed up and a strange/paniced look on his face. He hit's the floor running and is nowhere to be found for hours.
Once I was watching a football game and my team was losing bad so I turned it off. I went in the basement to play on the comp. Suddenly I hear the play by play of a game. Thinking I may have forgot to turn off th tv I went back upstairs. Nothin. went back down and it started up again. Back and forth 3 or 4 times. Finally I decided it must be my neighbor listening in his garage. I stepped out the front door and noticed that they were not even home.
Went back downstairs and a few minutes later the hair on the back of my neck went up and I got a sudden chill. Just as that happened the shadow of a person went across the wall I was facing.
. No one was home and I don't have windows behind me.
Another time I was watching TV with all the lights off. Something bumped my arm and I noticed it was the lamp on the table right next to my chair. I moved it back the few inches. It happened again twice more. I yelled out to whatever to knock it the &%$(*at*) off. It took me literally and pushed the lamp onto the floor.
I took a big swig of my beer and told it to mellow out.
Nothing else happened for a couple mos.
We've had doors open on their own. Nothing wrong with the locks/catches. Lot's of little things like this sporadically. Maybe 4 or 5 things happen over perhaps a couple weeks and then nothing for a couple mos or more.
One day I saw my back fenceline neighbor out. A women in her 60s. I said I need to ask a strange question. Her response was You too huh? . She had the same things as I going on for many years. Especially the phantom smells. It got to the point for her that they had to make duplicates of all the family members and friends keys. They had a bowl that everyone would put their keys in before a party and only this lady could decide if they got them back or they were staying the night. Many times the keys would just disappear but would almost always reappear elsewhere in the house a day or two later.
The neighbor right next to them actually did see a ghost/spirit. He was working at his comp. The comp. hutch is a straight shot thru the living room from the front door. He happened to look up and see an elderly lady standing there right inside the door. He asked if there was something he could do for her. He said that a couple times basically "Mam , you're in my house , can I help you" She just looked at him and he noticed that she didn't look quite right. She started walking towards him and he got the creeps big time and couldn't move. And then she just walked right THRU him. He said it felt like someone put a ton of ice cubes down his back. He turned his head and saw her take a couple more steps past him and she just vanished. He was very on edge and moody for a few days after. He mentioned this to the other neighbor. She told him that the wife of the previous owner had passed away about a week or so before. Was it her taking one last look at the old house? Who's to say.
Most people at work just kind of laugh at my stories and think I'm losing it. One time I was in my bosses office with another guy. I had just told them the latest happening a few minutes before when a sheet of paper on a side desk floated off onto the floor. My boss laughed and said " Hey it's Mike's ghost" As soon as he said that suddenly the copy machine went BANG BANG BANG and moved a couple inches. My bossed yelled &$%^%#(*at*) and almost fell out of his chair.
Thats all for now.

Well, aside from the previous owner committing suicide in my garage our ghosts have been on the quiet side. We, the Bride and I, would hear the bumps in the night now and then which we shrugged off to the previous owner moving around. We then adopted cats and for 18 years it was quiet although we observed that they seemed to sense a prescence every now and then. Now that our cats have all pased we hear the pitter patter of little footsteps running across the bedroom floor or up and down the stairs. We don't know if these will persist amidst real life fotsteps once we adopt a new family this spring, but we definitely have some "ghostly" company for now.

"Grandma" Betty, her real name Elizabeth, my sainted Mother, died in Sept 1983. She was very sick, but my first wife and I were expecting what was to be her first grandchild. Mom had told us all that she was going to fight to make it until it was born so she could see the baby, due in October.
In the middle of that night my wife woke me up, tears streaming down her face, awakened by a dream she just had. "Your Mom was here, she said she came to visit me and meet, (not see but meet) her grandson." We had had no idea of the gender. Just then the phone rang. It was my older brother at the hospital telling me Mom had passed away about 15 minutes ago. A little over a month later on Halloween my first son was born.
Fast forward - 1992. We had just moved into a farmhouse built in 1910 and moved to the suburb of Richfield in the 50s. By then we had two children, the youngest being our daughter Anna, then about 4. This old house had a kitchen on one end, a dining room in the middle and a parlour on the other end. We were sitting in the kitchen when Anna stopped eating and said "Listen - I hear her" . I asked her who she heard. She said "Grandma Betty, don't you hear? She's rocking in her chair."
Please believe me when I say we had never referred to my Mom as Grandma Betty, Anna would not have known to call her that for any reason nor would she have known about my Mom's favorite chair, in the parlour, an old-fashion wooden rocker that I took when she died. I ran in there and of course saw nor heard anything, the chair wasn't moving or anything like that. But I got a severe case of goosebumps and to this day I wonder about Anna hearing Grandma Betty and also about her "meeting" my first son.
Draw your own conclusions... mine is that there are plenty of mysteries in this world and I intend on staying open-minded so as not to miss anything that goes flittering by me in the dark or otherwise.

MY EXTANT WRITINGS OF TRUE GHOST STORIES
------------------------------------------------------
TIMOTHY FRANCIS, B.G.G.<baron_von_wolfstein(*at*)yahoo.com>
***************************************
... BARON TIMOTHEUS offers personal Supernatural experiences, to tide you over, about (gasp! Dare I say it?!)... GHOSTS!!!
Copyright 2004 Timothy Francis Meyer Herron, BGG ; Mon, 26 Jan 2004
Dear FANG-MILY,
Salutations to you all! I've been a bit of a ghost, lately, myself... aside from the odd hours of work, time constraints of local transit, especially in this wintry climate, as well as crimped library hours; I sometimes realize, that, I belong to too many groups, and, that, presently, much of my life is being focused in other, non-cyber directions. That, however, is a story for another time.
As many of you have complimented my writings of the HORROR HOSTING Variety, I thought I'd further share my background with you.
Along with the 'Learning Curve' of Creativity, I've had a Lifetime of Psychic, Mystical, and, Paranormal Experience. I am receptive to that Dimension of BEING as Experienced and Shared by others, too. I am certain, that, in a curiously charming breed as lively as our little group, most of you could relate a story or three along the lines of this Missive's particular (peculiar?) subject matter.
As much as I like to clowne around, there is a serious side to my nature. It is one thrilled by the Miracle, Mystery and Magical Awareness of Life; of the multi-various dimensions of Being and Consciousness.
I belong to a number of other on-line groups, and, several of them are related to our Supernatural aspect of Being. It recently occurred to me to share these writings with all of you, rather than just let them simmer in cyber-space, nestled in the forgotten archives of a limited readership of groups that offer that as their sole focus. Please, let me know what you think, and, if, as I share more with the other groups, you'd welcome reading them here, as well.

***** Episode #1 *****
------------------------------
This is one of my earliest ghost experiences, from late-Autumn, AD 1967, when I was a first-semester Freshman at Indiana University. I was majoring in Theatre, schooling with friends, such as KEVIN KLINE, ANDREAS KATSULAS, and JON BANKS, all of whom have proven themselves to be no slouches in the professional medium of TV & Cinema. I was cast in a small role in THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, as OLD GOBBO (mayhap, the earliest manifestation of CARLYLE, The Wizard.) It was a Clowne role, a bit of over-the-top comic relief, but, William Shakespeare fit it well, and, with great precision, into the play's structure.
Another Friend, MICHAEL KILGORE, who was also acting in the play, happened to live in my Dormitory, WRIGHT QUADRANGLE. One evening, in late October, he stopped by for a visit, so, I took a break from my studies. We decided, being perennially starving actors, to discuss our stage roles over a bite of food secured from our Dorm's Snack Bar.
To get there:
We had to leave my room... walk down the hall... go through the doors to the stairwell... then, walk down 3 short flights of stairs, each separated by a small landing. Next, we had to exit through the glass door facing the courtyard. Finally, a short walk to the other side of the courtyard would lead us to the main door to the quad. The Snack bar was just inside that main building, near that entrance.
I remember, clearly, our discussion about the play as we walked towards the stairwell, even, carrying on about it as we walked down the first two flights of steps... As we rounded the corner, to walk down the third flight, we both stopped on the landing, gripped with a sort of terror that something foreboding awaited us at the bottom of the stairs. We both felt a keen surge of 'electricity' of Consciousness emanating from that direction, before we ever looked out that door. In an agitated state of psychic awareness, I exclaimed:
"Stop! There's something out there!"
MICHAEL and I, in mid-stride, froze in our tracks, and, stared out the large plate-glass door, which loomed before us at the bottom of the stairs...
What I saw was this:
On the landing, just the other side of that door, was something from "The Other Side". A vague, yet, very distinct outline was luminously visible. It appeared to be two persons, one standing right behind the other, however, slightly off to one side, so that the glow of their outline resembled a being with two heads. Where their bodies would have been was an opaque, white-ish 'mist'; an unstable, ectoplasmic 'condensation'.
Their outline looked as if a (day-glo) glowing green thread had been draped over their heads, shoulders, and, trailed down their outer arms, disappearing into nothingness before it reached the ground.
This vision seemed strangely 'unnatural', in relation to being swathed against the solidity of normal shapes and densities of things cloaked the autumnal, nocturnal glory within finite Creation. My eyes closed, involuntarily; riveting themselves shut! I issued an urgent, internal prayer, with every fibre of my Being:
"GOD, Please, take this away!"
Before I could draw my next breath, I felt with every framework of sense, whether physical or spiritual, that, whatever it was, was now gone... departed; I was almost as shocked by this immediate answer to my prayer, as I'd been to the initial premonition. Opening my eyes, I looked through the glass door. My physical sight confirmed the intuition echoed by that 'Knowing' which permeated my entire Being.
'They' were gone.
I began to query MIKE as to what he'd seen. His description of our ghostly visitors matched mine, detail for detail. He felt that they were friendly, possibly, guardian angels, or, guiding spirits. I felt inclined to agree, as, they had not seemed threatening; it was due only to the expansive power from their unannounced manifestation, which had left us, momentarily, shocked out of our mortal senses. I believe, that, MICHAEL and I had discussed, briefly, the Supernatural realm in one of our previous talks. Yes, we continued our walk to the snack bar, having worked up even more of an appetite to compensate for our energy expenditure from this unplanned adventure.
My Beloved UMA FANG-MILY,
... Much, more, to share; if this recounting has "whetted your appetite", let me know; I shall be glad, and, honoured, to continue.
EXANIMO EVERNOW,
TIMOTHY FRANCIS MEYER HERRON, B.G.G.

According to our own Max Cheney, the beloved and dearly missed Linda Miller and her mother had both experienced ghosts inside the home they shared. In fact, they became quite accustomed to living with their ghost. If Max is reading this, perhaps he could elaborate some, but if I remember correctly, Max told me that Linda's mother told him that it was common fare to have things move around the house all by themselves. Strange noises were also a common experience. In fact, I believe Linda had even mentioned at some point seeing the actual ghost! Maybe Robert Taylor knows the story too being as he regularly exchanged e-mails with Linda.
Man, I sure miss Linda.

***** EPISODE #2 *****
-----------------------------
This episode below recounts a snippet of ghostly phenomena, from when I lived in a Haunted Apartment for one Winter-Spring Semester in College. This experience was also shared by my two college room-mates, as well as their girlfriends.
The house, rented by JOEL S., TIM B., and, myself, in the winter-spring semester of AD 1968 was an old home in Bloomington, which had been structurally altered by our landlady some years previously. She had turned the indoor staircase leading to the 2nd floor, so, that, it now adjoined the north wall. Next, she had it enclosed; finally, adding 2 doors; one, leading to the steet, and, the second, opening into the top floor... our 'cozy' (to put the kindest spin possible on it) apartment. In this way, she could cleverly rent the two stories separately, with the intent of squeezing even more money out of the captive student population.
---------------------
I was the first of our close-knit group to sleep in that apartment, alone, one night prior to the arrival of the others. As I dozed off to sleep, I remember having a vague awareness of 'presence', and, the attendant thought:
"Gee, I wonder if this place is haunted."
It wasn't enough to trouble me back to wakefulness, and, so sleep, undisturbed, engulfed me. The next morning brought with it the return of my good friends, TIM and JOEL, as well as their respective girlfriends, SHARON and GINNA. They maneuvered the new day into multiple activities far afield from anything even remotely paranormal. JOEL was an excellent Chef, (as well as being a magnificent Singer, Pianist and Actor) and, he joyously commandeered our little kitchen that first day with the preparation of a most sumptuous repast: Flank-Steak Marinade with Mushroom Sauce, and, authentic New York-style Potato Pancakes, replete with applesauce.
Our little banquet began around 6 PM. Whilst the four of them shared a bottle of wine, I contented myself with Sprite (... yes, difficult to believe, I know, but, in those by-gone days of Yore, I was a tee-totaller!)
As a 'host' to the three of us, our olde upstairs apartment was of a 'cozy' size to begin with, but, as the evening neared, and, GINNA and SHARON added their unique presences to the convivial chemistry, this humble dwelling-place was set on festive over-load; positively beaming and alive with good fellowship and laughter, not to mention the happiest taste-buds on the planet, and, the most satiated of tummies.
Once we had succumbed to the gluttonous enjoyment of JOEL'S epic culinary creativity, the excellence of which we proved by leaving nary a scrap of leftover, we all adjourned to the living-room to continue our joyful celebration.
The Evening blissfully smiled it's way into the half-past ten hour, when, heeding the impending inner call to retire for the night, I left the others to continue their partying in the living-room, whilst I adjourned to our sleeping-quarters.
I entered the bedroom, ready to collapse into my bed, and, fade effortlessly into sleep, when I noticed my water-glass beside my bed, which activated the feeling of thirst. This need, so simple to resolve, nudged me into forgoing the anticipated pleasure of my immediate date with Morpheus.
I had already taken off my shirt, but, I decided to forego putting it back on, since the kitchen, literally, adjoined the bedroom via a small hall-way, out of my comrades' line of vision. So, I picked up my water-glass, and, ambled into the kitchen for a refill. I quite forgotten about that uneasy, nocturnal 'awareness' I'd had the prior evening...
Until...
As I stepped squarely into the kitchen door-frame, something 'unexplainable' happened.
On my bare back, on the mid-to-lower left side, a sudden fingertip pressure touched me... definitely identifiable as a 'human' fingertip, and, to whomever it belonged was taking personal liberties with it.
This fingertip was unique in another way... it was icy-cold and felt electrically-charged.
In a controlled north-to-south stroking motion, this fingertip zig-zagged, up and down, up and down, up and down, over a swath of four to six inches on my back, as if, playfully, letting me know that 'they' were there.
I froze, momentarily unable to move, but, as soon as the finger-motion stopped, I whirled around, filled with the concrete knowledge that there was no one of the physical dimension behind me...
I was correct.
My four compatriots were still ensconced in the living-room, merrily chatting away, oblivious to my dilemma. There was no one with me, at least, in the corporeal sense.
I didn't mention this odd episode to either TIM or JOEL, but, as I discovered, they were both of strong psychic constitution as well. Within 24 to 48 hours of my bout with our unseen occupant, they cornered me with a direct intent: "Timothy, somethings going on with you; troubling you, that you're not telling us. What is it?"
I replied, "Well, if you really must know, this place is Haunted; we've got a Ghost." Then, I related the details of information of my spooky encounter with our forth 'occupant'. Once that information became 'public', our unseen guest began to put in regular appearances.
-----------------------------
Thus, began a Semester of Psychic Over-Load 101; in those days, a Non-Accredited Course, but, the teacher was great, it was home-study, and, so intensely riveting that it was impossible to fail.
-----------------------------
We were all in Theatre and Music, so, we were a bunch of shameless Night-Owls. We'd inhabit our little kitchen with its small table, sitting around recounting the day's events, snacking and laughing, sometimes, until the wee, small hours o' the morning. Then, one night, within the first week, or, two, after we'd taken up residence there...
"It" happened...
At precisely 1:35 AM, we heard heavy footsteps walking up the stairs from the street. Instead of the expected knock on the door, or, a recognizable voice calling our names, we heard an audibly Human 'GASP!', followed by a series of sounds, as if this anguished individual was running, or, more likely, falling, back down the stairway. The first time this occurred, fearing that one of our friends had come visiting and had fallen on the stairs, possibly sustaining a serious injury, we, {all FIVE} bolted towards the door and threw it open, while the falling sound was still in progress!
There was 'no one' on the stairs, of course (not visibly, at least), and, the door at the bottom of the stairs was still closed. During that episode, the light in the enclosed stairwell took on a strange, unearthly, quality... a haze of light, only dimly perceivable, enshrouded the stairwell, comprised of a misty, greenish-yellow spectrum, in which a turmoil of whitish flashes boiled.
This pattern re-played itself, to our awareness (by direct involvement) somewhere between 5 to 7 times during that semester, and, with incredibly unerring punctuality, (and, once, for GINNA and I, on a brightly-lit Spring Afternoon at 1:35 PM!) That was only the 'tip of the iceberg' of supernatural activity that I continued to experience during my residence there.
... Anyone care, for "MORE"? ... If so, another Helping is on the way...

***** EPISODE #3 *****
-----------------------------
Here's a further installment of the Supernatural oddities that abounded under that roof in Bloomington. I was a bit unnerved to be alone in that house, aware that an "Unseen Presence" was aware of me... Whether alone, or, in the company of the others, I'd be walking through the rooms, and, sometimes I would walk through "It", and, sometimes, while I'd be standing still, "It" would walk through me. The most memorably disturbing incident was, once (and, only once, Thank GOD!), while taking a shower, in the rather cramped quarters, of our bathroom.
I was singing, shampooing and soaping, enjoying the luxurious pampering afforded by a nice, hot, shower. Billowing clouds of steam rolled playfully about the air, filling that small cubicle. I noticed that the daylight (This shower was taken during the mid-afternoon) was mildly obscured by the steam fogging up the window. ... Then...
'It' happened.
Without warning, the entire content, of steamy fog, which filled the room, simply, suddenly, and, inexplicably, VANISHED!...
*POOF* ... COMPLETELY EVAPOURATED!!!
This unnerving phenomenon occurred, even, with the hot shower still going, full-blast! Then, the all-too-familiar icy "COLD-SPOT", of Ethereal Presence, enveloped me. "It" was, in contradiction, electrically-charged; best described as 'an area conscious of itself'... and, obviously, conscious of my presence, too. I mentally toyed with the option of (meekly) saying, out loud:
"Uhhh, could you hand me the soap, please?"
But, somehow, I resisted that temptation. For, had I done so, and, had the soap 'wafted' from its harbour in the soap-dish, and, over to my hand, courtesy of some Non-Corporeal Agency, I think that I would have fainted ... and, in all likelihood, I would have drowned in that tiny shower. Then, I, too, would have probably been consigned to haunt that apartment. Perhaps that's what my Spectral Visitor had in mind; securing a spooky playmate, for the duration of Its earth-bound sentence.
Believe me, that apartment was too small, for TWO Ghosts!
*************************************
That time-frame was, psychically, very dense, indeed, with mountains of experiences more to relate.
*************************************
Howe'er, this following episode, which I'm scribing on Thursday, Jan 8th, AD 2004, is from this current day. {Ironic, that, I re-share these ghostly capers, with my UMA FANG-MILY, now, nearly 5 years, exactly, to the date, later!}
As most, if, not all, of you know, I recently had the good fortune to share an old duplex apartment with one of the best friends, Bob Hinton (aka, A. GHASTLEE GHOUL), whom Life has ever afforded me. This living arrangement lasted until his recent marriage to his Beloved, Kathy (aka, the Lovely SUSPIRA), at which time he moved into her home. My time-span in his old apartment covered a little more than a year. 'Twas an old, fairly dilapidated homestead. I {and, others, such as THE BONE JANGLER and NOCTURNA, sensed a fair amount of 'occupancy' by 'non-corporeal beings'. BOB had even put up some 'charms', by way of containment.} The kitchen, livingroom, and, my bedroom were uniquely 'alive' at certain times...
The kitchen had a computer/tv;
The livingroom held the big-screen tv;
And, my bedroom; well, this only happened once that I'm aware of...
It was a winter's night, late in AD 2002, or, early 2003. Snow had recently fallen, and, lay, upon the ground, outside, of my window, in a still-pristine condition. The head of my bed was solidly against that outside wall, just beneath the windows; the top of my head faced that northern wall. All was peacefully quiet, contained within the serene wintry stillness.
I'd retired for the evening at around 11:00 PM, and, had been lying there, awaiting sleep, when, all of a sudden, I experienced the startling realization, that, I was not alone! I heard, on the king-sized mattress, upon which I reposed, just to my right, the unmistakeable sound... of breathing. These were full, deliberate, breaths; neither, rushed, nor, laboured. They sounded relaxed, as if the 'one' who was doing the breathing was consciously trying to control the exercise... or, lightly slumbering.
I even held my breath, in order to convince myself that I was not the culprit... to my amazement, during the time I did so, the breathing continued, unchanged... until, after some 15 to 20 repetitions, further, my invisible partner ceased making those ghostly sound-effects...
Not to be too irrational... I thought: "What, if I mis-heard the direction, from whence those sounds were emitted?" I tore open the drape, behind my head, rolled, onto my stomache, and, peered out, of my large bedroom windows, looking, desperately, for tell-tale foot-prints, of a heavy-breathing passer-by, in the freshly fallen snow, beneath my windows. Despite careful scrutiny, I had to concede, that, there were none ... and, my initial impusle, had been correct... The Presence, breathing so comfortably, had been lodged, in the bed, beside me!
... More, Soon.

"Uhhh, could you hand me the soap, please." Classic dear Baron, and perhaps well you didn't voice said thought verbally. I eagerly await the next installment.

If I see you in Louisville or Pittsburgh this year, I expect you to hunt me down a ghost. We'll go to wherever you think the ghosts are hoppin' and stay there until an ectoplasmic manifestation occurs.

Very cool stuff Baron. I wish whatever visits my home from time to time would take it up a step to what you've been thru.

... Sounds, like dialogue, from a bad Ghost Buster/Prison Comedy... Picture DAN ACKROYD saying it...
... More, very soon.
