I'm up for Raquel's "fur-kini" in high definition.

Kino Lorber To Release OCTAMAN On Blu-ray!

Kino Lorber Studio Classics, in conjunction with MGM, has announced that they will be releasing the 1971 schlock classic OCTAMAN on Blu-ray and DVD in April, 2017. The film stars Pier Angeli, Kerwin Matthews, Jeff Morrow and Buck Kartalian. It was shot by Robert Caramico (EATEN ALIVE) and was written, directed and produced by Harry Essex (CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE). This release promises to be loaded with extras and bonus features will be announced soon. Kino has also announced a number of favorites for Blu-ray in 2017, including new editions of Hammer’s THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH and Amicus’ THE SKULL, THE PIED PIPER (starring Donovan) and Z.P.G. (ZERO POPULATION GROWTH. Scream Factory has also announced a bunch of vintage drive-in Blu-ray announcements for 2017, including THE ANGRY RED PLANET, THE SCREAMING SKULL, WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH HELEN?, THE VAMPIRE (1957), INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS and I BURY THE LIVING.

Both THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH and THE SKULL have commentaries as well as other goodies so I will be getting those. Hopefully ANGRY RED PLANET, I BURY THE LIVING and THE VAMPIRE will also have some good extras..

And INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS is an exploitation must-have! :)

Yeah, I'll probably pass on Octaman until I find it at a really good price. Many of those others I'll be looking for, especially One Million Years B.C., The Man Who Could Cheat Death, and The Skull. Since so much is coming out on Blu-ray these days I've gotten a little picky about what I upgrade from DVD and I also check reviews to make sure it's enough of an upgrade to warrant the purchase.

Some stuff like Manos, The Hands Of Fate I'm perfectly happy to do without the Blu-ray on.

This is my view exactly! If I will upgrade to Blu for it, it has to be worth it in my estimation. ;)

I just noticed via this thread that Carnival of Souls now has a BluRay release ... I have the Criterion DVD set (which is excellent BTW), but I think I'm going to grab the BluRay too.  The reviews are very good regarding the hidef transfer of the movie, but since the special features are different between the BluRay and DVD editions, I'll likely need to keep both.

Looking forward to watching it in hidef!  Definitely one of my favs, despite some really bad acting by some of the minor characters (I thought Candace Hilligoss was great in this movie!).

Incidentally, the last time I went to Candace Hilligoss' web site, her memoir was not yet published.  It is available now, in both hardback and softcover, signed by Candace.  She also has a nice variety of photos on her web site that she will sign for a very reasonable price.

Mad Magician, The - 1954   -   Twilight Time 3D Blu-Ray (Region Free)   -   Scheduled Release:  Jan. 17, 2017

"Columbia Pictures’ last entry in the 1950s 3D craze, The Mad Magician (1954) stars Vincent Price in a trademark role as a round-the-bend illusionist bent on revenge."

Special Features:

1.  Isolated Music Track
2.  Audio Commentary by Film Historians David Del Valle and Steven Peros
3.  Master of Fright!: Conjuring The Mad Magician / Original Theatrical Trailer
4.  Two 3D/2D 1953 Comedy Shorts Starring The Three Stooges, Pardon My Backfire and Spooks!

Am I the only one that hates the cover art?  I would have preferred they re-use the original poster.

The original poster art would have been preferable IMO.

Looks like they're trying to compete with Criterion.

Interesting to see so many older 3D movies being issued on Blu-Ray.

Is 3D all that popular today - or is it for older viewers who are nostalgic for cinematic headaches?

Probably a little of both. They release (on BD) a lot of movies in 3D, these days.

My thoughts exactly. When in doubt, use movie poster art (I always say).

I wish they'd do that all the time with older films.  The poster art is one of the best things about these flicks.

DEFINITELY getting Octaman.
