It came out in 1965. I got it back when things like this often went cheap on ebay. It was never released in the USA.

Well those eBay days are well and truly over unless you're lucky enough to find something miss-listed.

Great set though and as I've been listening to a lot of Podstallions Podcasts recently it was nice to see as the hosts of that show are massive Dr Who fans (as I was growing up in the UK in the 70's as a boy  :D), and have been talking about the old merchandise.

Athol Research released this Creature Feature board game in 1975:

Very cool graphics! Here's a look at the contents of the one owned by Monsters for Sale:

It's evidently based on Monopoly.

The Hasbro Horror House Paint and Pencil by Number set was a Sears exclusive listed for $3.97 in the 1963 and 1964 Sears Xmas catalogues:

It was the mother of all paint and colour by number sets! Included were:

1. The 12" X 16" canvases from the Hasbro Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolf Man Paint by Number sets.
2. A whopping 36 8" X 10" sheets of sundry horror-themed scenes from the Hasbro Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolf Man Paint and Pencil sets for colouring with coloured pencils or water-colour paints. The 36 sheets included cropped versions of the Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolf Man canvases mentioned in the line above.
3. Two racks of oil paint and two packs of pencils and water paint tablets.
4. Three oil paint brushes and two water colour brushes.

I'll give you $5.00 for yours...  No, I need to take into account collector value...  Make it $5.50.

Phantom, Mummy and Creature canvases are not included in that set, also the Paint and Pencil sets don't contain canvases at all and the size of all of the sheets included with them (which includes portrait images cropped out of the images used for the D, F, W oil paint sets) are 8 x 10. Is that 2/3 the size of the oil paint by number canvases?

Here are some good discussions with images from over the years:

8x10 is 2/3 of 12x15. Canvases (from original paint-by sets) are 12x16.

In case it was coming from me, I edited my previous post.

Well, I am feverish and fighting a nasty bronchitis, but the erroneous info is in Hep's post. It's all pretty well laid out in the old posts I linked (with the exception of me thinking the canvases were x 19 back when). The Sears set is just the six sets available in 1963 minus the packaging and some supplies.

Bad stuff! Hope you're taking anti-biotics. Also, drink plenty of water and do deep breathing exercises.

From precisely one of the two threads to which you provided links! I picked up on some misinformation that had been posted and then failed to note that it was subsequently corrected.

Oh scream! I looked up the Hasbro Horror House set months ago but deferred on posting it here because I wanted to provide a list of contents and I wasn't quite sure of the contents. Seems I badly blew the job yesterday anyway.

 >:(

...but the erroneous info is in Hep's post.

True. Damn it!  >:( I think I've corrected it now though.

It's all pretty well laid out in the old posts I linked (with the exception of me thinking the canvases were x 19 back when). The Sears set is just the six sets available in 1963 minus the packaging and some supplies.

Hmmmmm. "Pretty" well? Not so well that I couldn't bungle the job of summarizing it all accurately in one post it seems. I should have taken more time and read through the threads from start to finish.

Where's the smilie for flagellating myself?

I've now edited my post above(#1159). Please look it over and tell me whether any false or misleading information remains. I really don't like to leave misleading info for posterity.

...also the Paint and Pencil sets don't contain canvases at all and the size of all of the sheets included with them (which includes portrait images cropped out of the images used for the D, F, W oil paint sets) are 8 x 10.

I take it that you're not classifying the 36 pencil/water-colour sheets as "canvases".

Is that 2/3 the size of the oil paint by number canvases?

Well when it comes to actual size the 8" X 10" water-colour sheets have only 41.67% of the total area of the 12" X 16" canvases.

 ;D

Still recovering here but I'll read it over. The main thing to know is that the Horror House box is the unique part of the gift set, and that the second assortment of oil paint by numbers is NOT included.
