If you want to view Paradise, simply look around and view it.

Hey guys.  In an earlier post on this thread, I made mention of a piece that I was suspect on, it is in the book on monster collectibles by the famous guitarist, page 142.  At the top of the page, you will see 3 monster autos.  I really do believe that the wolfman piece, unless somebody else has one and proves me wrong, does not go with the set. I'm pretty sure it was a "made-up" piece. However, a third character "was" actually made for this set. Here are pictures of it, and I actually do remember this particular toy from the sixties along with the Frankenstein and Dracula pieces. I remember seeing these in a large plain cardboard box with slots where these sat in. Here again, hopefully somebody else has one, if not, it's the only one to surface so far.

Do you remember in which store you saw them? A five-and-dime? A mom-and-pop toy store perhaps?

Hi Hepcat. Yes, I remember the store very well. It was a toy store which was located at 8th & Penn street here in Reading, the store was always a favorite, I remember buying my Monster print putty there also, they sold mostly toys, a few bikes, and they had a hobby section too.  The front of the store was always filled with the huge display windows showing current(at the time) toys, it always drew the kids in, including me.  Big blue letters spelled TOYS in a hap-hazard way above the entrance outside. It wasn't a chain store, it was owned privately.  The inside was always clean and tidy.  I still remember the owner, standing quietly with his hands folded behind his back, smiling when the kids would come in.

Oh man! Sounds like a dream of a store!

I take it though that it's no longer there.

Well, sort of. The store is still there, it's been empty for years, but, the big blue letters are still there, there was an auction there many, many years ago, some items were found in the basement of the store, but nothing substantial, it would really be neat if another owner could take it over, but the economy here in Reading is not good, and I'll bet that the store is now owned by the city, which probably means that there are a ton of back taxes to be paid on it if it were ever sold.

Back taxes? That means the city will let a new owner have it for next to nothing. YOU should be that new owner!

Hi Hepcat.  If only I could!!  I think the way it would work is the new owner, if it were ever sold, would be responsible for the back taxes.  It could be an enormous amount. The city probably took the property over because of it being in good shape and with it still being on Penn st.  It might have some historical value also, it was one of the "icon" stores here years ago.

In such cases municipalities are always willing to come to terms on a deal. So no excuses!

Ok!!  But--I would need a business partner.  Actually, there are a few vintage toy stores here that sell older, collectible toys, located in West Reading,  about a mile away.  Crime rate here is VERY bad, it would be a little "dicey" to say the least.  But, at least I can safely "dream" about having a store like this!

Here's what puzzles me about Reading and a lot of other U.S. cities for that matter. The population is supposedly 88,000. Yet the city actually looks a lot bigger:

Is there a lot more population outside a certain artificial manmade boundary that the 88,000 does not include?

Damn, Hepcat!!  That's a "great" shot of Reading!!  It's really concentrated with the population, lots of "single" type homes, as well as city type row homes which house more than one family now-a -days.  It's not unusual for a row type home to become a 3 unit type row home.  Parking here is a nightmare, unless you pay for a private garage, which there aren't many to be had. I'm one of the lucky ones who has one.  If you can expand that photo, you'll see the Pagoda on top of the mountain.

The Wolf Man is a "fantasy" piece. There are a number of skull headed drivers in collections and occasionally on the market. I've never seen nor heard of a counter display for these, but they did ship in individual boxes, all with the same graphics on them.
