What is this thing?
« on: October 16, 2015, 04:00:22 PM »
We can reuse this thread for things we want identified.

Here's the first one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/272010895508?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I would have posted a pic but I have it on my PC and didn't want to host it (running out of capacity). It looks like a humanoid fly monster figure from the '60s or '70s like MPC would have made, but it isn't marked. It's probably foreign, but whomever did it certainly did a great job (other people thought so too, look at the final price someone ponied up  :o). I'm all about the old monster playset and figure stuff but I'm stumped. Can anyone identify it?

It's only been one day!
True. But, it doesn't hurt to keep it near the top for awhile so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

I'm getting more curious about this thing the longer it remains unidentified on what is assumed to be the premiere monster toy info site in cyberspace. Of course nobody had any info on that MPC King Kong Window Box Set either, but at least we knew the basics about that from the packaging. It's kinda neat some of this stuff still has some mystery about it... but, I'm still curious.

Man, the look of that figure reminds me of classic '60s MPC, and seems very similar in style to the MPC Daffy Daddy-ohs.

Here's an auction pic of the base bottom with no markings.

No MPC markings, and I seriously doubt a MPC figure this cool would have gone under the radar all this time.

It does look like it's made of the shiny plastic toy companies started using in the mid '60s as opposed to the flat lead-based plastic that was used before that.

It sort of looks simular to the moon creatures from the movie First Men in the Moon.  I really the design.

Got an email from monsterclr(*at*)aol.com which states the following:

IT'S A HARTLAND HORRIBLE. THE COMPANY THAT DID THE BASEBALL FIGURINES ETC. THEY DID A SET OF FOUR.

I've never heard of Hartland Horribles. Has anybody else?

Found this pic on Worthpoint of the four Hartland Horribles:

I don't see Mr. Fly in that group. Soooo... ???

Okay, solved!

According to some tidbits of info from the net these things are from the '50s which might or might not be true. That shiny plastic looks like the stuff Marx and MPC were using later on, but maybe Hartland used a different type plastic. They must be scarce as hen's teeth.

I wouldn't collect them at these prices, but that fly guy is a cool looking monster figure.
