I used to be a huge Hulk collector growing up. But by about 1990, they kept trying to change the character and make him more hip. His body kept getting bigger and his head kept getting smaller. Eventually, I lost interest in that "modern" Hulk. I still, however, love the retro versions of the character, and will occasionally pick up some of that style merchandise. It is hard to imagine nowadays (where there are aisles or whole sections of the store devoted to Marvel characters), but in the late 70's and early 80's, while Hulk paraphernalia wasn't exactly scarce, it wasn't very plentiful either. Most of what I have in my collection is left over from those golden years. Here are some of my non-figure items.

First up is what I believe is the very first Hulk Happy Meal (my friend at the comic shop keeps correcting me- "it's only a true Happy Meal if it comes from McDonald's!"). Actually, it was put out by Hardee's in 1983 and contains a cool 3-D comic which you can view through the filters in the box.

Speaking of fast food premiums, this Hulk glass came from Dunkin' Donuts (and was originally filled with Munchkins!)

Next up is the Hulk Smash-up Action Game. I remember reading in a parenting magazine at the time that this item earned their high recommendation. I found this somewhat ironic, since the point of the game is to get angry and then break things!

Who doesn't remember View-Master growing up? They had a whole lineup of Marvel characters, not to mention a Godzilla set that used the Marvel Comic artwork. I just wish that they had him fighting the Abomination or the Leader.

While I am not a super-huge fan of the Marvel Super Hero cartoon from the 1960's, I absolutely love the packaging artwork for this VHS release.

Finally, here is a retro mini-lunchbox showing the Jack Kirby-esque looking version of the Hulk.

Wow! great collection. I sort of share your opinion on the Hulk. My favorite version will always be from the mid 70's to the mid 80's. The Sal Buscema era and around that time. I do like some of the extreme more modern Hulk images. However, Sal Buscemea and Jack Kirby will always be the king of Hulk art in my opinion.

Here is a custom Hulk figure based on the late 70's early 80's version.

While I have several Hulk figures, I am particularly proud of this customization. When I first saw the pre-release pictures of this figure, The Savage Hulk from 1996, it looked like THE definitive representation of the character (at least, up until that point). But when I saw what the figure actually looked like in the store, I realized that something went very, VERY wrong. The head looked like it got caught in a trash compactor, the expression on the face is just bizarre, he has penciled in eyebrows (like a Hollywood starlet of the 1930's) and they topped him off with a Moe Howard toupee! Not to mention they gave him an off green color and the physique of a super-deformed character. It was terrible! However, I have to admit I have very mixed feelings about these sub-par representations. On the one hand, it is frustrating and angering that many figure makers don't spend the little bit extra time and attention to detail that so many of these characters deserve. They are so close to a creating a really outstanding and memorable figure, but they ruin with a poor paint scheme, or costume choice, or lack of detailing (Hasbro is notorious for this). On the other hand, I really like notion of finding these "diamonds in the rough" and customizing them into the figures they should have been; it's both a challenge and a hobby. Plus, many of these figures you can often get dirt cheap, just because they are butt-ugly.

For this figure, I "inflated" his head back to a more proportionate width; I re-did his hair with Sculpy and repainted him a hunter green. I also built up his eyebrows. While the figure still looks a bit squat and cartoonish, I feel it is a marked improvement from straight out of the package, and much closer to the "Classic" Hulk visage I really like.

Yes, big improvement. Too bad it was a nicer figure to start with. I wish we had more Hulk figures based on his look in the  60's 70's and 80's comic books.

This is the same Hulk figure I posted in my last Hulk post. However, it had additional sculpting done and a new professional paint job. It looks more realistic now. Also, I have a new camera and I thought the Hulk would be a good subject to test it out. A couple of the backgrounds were digitally painted in.

I've got those issues as well. I would love to get a poster of the Wrightson Hulk vs Man-Thing!

This is the second custom Frankenstein Hulk figure in my collection. The stitches are a nice touch. I thought about having a classic Frankenstein jacket and pants made for the figure. I think it would make a great huge looking Frankenstein figure. The stitches could show through the jacket or a shirt.
