You should shoot Dirty Horse a PM. If anyone can help, he's the one.

Very true, I might just do that.

Well folks, the answer to the question 'How much plaster does it take to fill Dracula's base!?' is nearly 1kg! I know! Good job I bought 2kg or I wouldn't have any to fill his legs with. I'll let the base thoroughly set and get to them next.

You might have to use some plaster on the legs, it's very top-heavy. You don't want it to start leaning over. BTW, how's the new TV?

I plan to fill the legs next. The TV is fine, I've been calibrating it and I'm getting used to the settings.

While awaiting word from Dirtyhorse as to filling the legs, I decided to rearrange Dracula's right hand so it convincingly holds the candlestick. Hooray for vinyl as I was able to heat the fingers, bend them to the right pose and then set them with cold water. You can't do that with a resin kit!

Small update, the legs are filled (which I did without gluing him to the base) and I'm waiting for the plaster to cure before sealing it with glue. His right foot bugs me. From the arch to the ball where the toe of the shoe starts it's flat to the deck, but, the heel doesn't sit right. With the torso propped on everything is perfect so I won't tinker any more with the foot. What is evident though is a dip in the base around where the foot peg is, it's there on Dirtyhorse's one too and I can't see how the heel sits on his. I think I'll build that part of the base up so the heel sits flat and leave it at that.

More fun to come....

Sounds like you're taking your time and getting it right. No need to rush on this beauty. I've always wanted McVey's Karloff Frankenstein & Lugosi Dracula on each side of my fireplace.

Yep! The base is all done as regards contouring and filling, the foot sits perfectly. I may shoot some pics later, then I'll paint the base. It's easier to get that done than paint round Drac when he's on the base. If you had either McVey kit by a fireplace you would definitely need to fill them, probably completely so nothing moved.

Here's a couple of pics showing how the foot sits after I contoured the base a little bit:

I've given the base a coat of black primer and you can't tell which bits are mine and which bits are Tony's.

Onwards and upwards....

Thanks,

Now to get painting the stonework. Doing an image search for romanian stone steps turns up some alarming results! Just ordinary stone is a better idea.

Another update,

The base is all done now and I'm really happy with it. It looks a tad odd when he's not standing on it as there's no sense of scale till he does. He stands just nicely on it and I have now glued his top and bottom halves together. Next up, filling, oh joy!

Here's some pics of the base:

Enjoy!

That it is, don't forget there's nearly a kilo of plaster in there. I finally got the cloak lining in, so that's ready to fill as well. This is really beginning to come together.
