That's a great set, Wnew. I believe that's the 1968 set with the solid yellow Hamilton's Invaders Spider and the sperm whale. That decorated box is killer.

But, where is that little Flying Sub from? Is that part of a model?

Thank you , love your set as well , the little sub was in the box with the set when I bought it years ago but I do not believe it was ever part of the set as I have never seen any reference mentioning it.

VTTBOTS Sears Wishbook ads:

1966:

"Battle killer whale and giant squid...."? I see a sperm whale and a very large octopus.

That's a beautiful box. Those decorated box MIB VTTBOTS sets are often priced at extremely high levels on eBay. For that matter all Remco VTTBOTS and Hamilton's Invaders toys seem to be priced VERY high, even some of the damaged pieces. I can see the nice condition ones being worth a lot (as in hundreds but NOT thousands of $), but not some of the damaged pieces that some sellers ask ridiculous prices for. I'm just glad I scored some decent Remco HI and VTTBOTS sets and pieces when I did. I wouldn't want to shell out for those now.

That is very true , I recall before things went crazy when the speculators entered the toy market raising the prices for all collectors.

I could go to any toy dealer and get a hamiltons Invaders boxed set in the $25 range for almost any one The big cave set with everything was $50-$75 , Voyage items were on the average higher $30-50 for the sea scout set and $75 for the seaview , lost in space were a bit pricy with the robot selling for $100-boxed and the roto jet gun was the rarest selling for a wopping $300-$400 .

Captain Action costume sets sold on avg for $25 ea boxed and GI Joe SOTW were $50-$75 boxed

Boy oh Boy have prices changed and well above the inflation rate ;)

Was the Explorer set by itself another Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea item or just another unrelated Remco item?

What years was this? I don't recall seeing any of these sets at either toy shows or in the Toy Shop newspaper going back to the early nineties.

It sold by itself but I made a mistake calling it the explorer set it was called the Scout Set (as a kid we always called it the explorer set) I've corrected the error to avoid confusion

That was back in the mid / late 70s , prices had already started to pick up by the 90s , I recall buying tons of the orig Joe SOTW dolls back then,
all were selling on close out in McCroys at $2 for small box and $3 for the large boxed ones

I was going to post mine but you beat me to it.  ;D

Mine is nice and complete, but the 16 sub counters have been punched out. That game board is very iconic. Those Milton Bradley TV board games from the '60s are simplistic, but the great artwork makes them very desirable. Some of those images are burned into the collective Monsterkid brain.
