I try to avoid a "blame the victim" mentality. But I do have to wonder about someone who plunks down $1,500 for a collectible without educating themselves about what they are buying. It makes me think money must come easily to them, so it doesn't really matter if they lose it.

When I enter a new collecting field, I usually get burned. It's part of the learning process. Like a child touching a hot stove, I never forget a lesson learned. But $1,500 is awfully expensive tuition.

All that being said. the person who deserves to be pelted with fruit is the seller. The buyer made a mistake. The seller is the one who ripped him off. I do not believe this item was sold in good faith.

Interesting... The guy selling it is NOT the guy who won the auction in this threads' original post... Different feedback. How many of these stupid replicas are there?!?

Unless he has more than one eBay name.  Some people buy with one name and sell with another - to keep potential buyers from knowing how much was paid by them for items.

Before eBay made such information confidential, I would sometime search through sellers' info and find what they had paid just the week before for something they were selling.

(But it's not likely that someone who paid $1500.00 for something would turn around and sell it for a beginning bid of only $100.00 so quickly.)

I got an email back from the seller, "Amy", and she claims this was her late Grandfather's, who collected nodders, and that he definately sent it out for restoration and that he was not happy with the color in the end.

Apparently, the restorer of this piece was an "artist", but not a "pro" nodder restorer. If this is all the case, the head and body exhibit HUGE restoration, to the point of resculpt.

Amy seemed very straight forward about the whole thing and my questions. I just think a $1500 minimum bid is high in this case, and will scare everyone away.

Will you be pointing out the new listing to Amy? I'd be interested in her response, or more likely lack thereof.

Now that eBay hides buyers' I.D.'s in seller feedback, we are unable to contact the buyer and alert them of the fraud.  We can only assume that the buyer had Frankenstein Bobble Heads in a saved search and will be reading the new listing right about now.

Imagine the sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.

Amy though was the previous seller who insisted the bobble head was indeed vintage, albeit restored.

Yeah.  I was referring to the person who bought from Amy.  I was thinking about how he would be feeling about now.

I've flipped back and forth between the "restored one" and the admitted fan made one several times. Now it could be lighting or a different angle view, but IMHO they look a little different from each other. Fan made one appears to be a bit chubbier, the eyes are more Oriental looking, the area around the eyes looks deeper, more sunken and it has only one clean scar while the other looks to have a smaller scar, blood drip next to it.

I know almost nothing about the original except for what has been mentioned here and an auction from last year. This one in the auction had some miner chips and a crack in the neck line. That's a boat load of money for a bobble head, especially a slightly damaged one.

The currently listed Frank is a different example than "Amy's", that's for sure. Paint job is completely different closeup.

So I guess someone, somewhere out there is making repros.

I really hope whoever bought it wasn't a collector/enthusiast but was a speculator just out to flip the thing for a profit. I'd hate for a collector to be burned like that for $1500.
