I got an email back from the seller, "Amy", and she claims this was her late Grandfather's, who collected nodders, and that he definately sent it out for restoration and that he was not happy with the color in the end.

But of course there was no mention of restoration in her listing.

  ::)

Amy seemed very straight forward about the whole thing and my questions.

One of the questions you should have asked then is how and why the location of the item is listed as the United States when her Ebay description states that:

I feel bad for whoever won that .

I've been burned collecting monsters as a result of not thoroughly researching the item... But never to the tune of $1500 bucks.

 I hope it's not a UMAer. Still, you can't really pity someone who can afford to pay $1,500 for a bobblehead.

Well, IMHO, this was high for what you got, BUT if this IS a real one that is heavily restored (as Amy claimed), and it was redone/restored correctly, I think it would be easily worth in the $1K-$2K range, which is what they are paying for the piece in question.

It's a hard enough item to find that I can understand someone who would pay $1500, just to restore it. Much more wallet friendly than a mint original would be.

Restore what? You can't restore a fake into an original. You can't tell me that that skinny body was "restored" from a fat original. What did she do, put it on a diet?

Strictly commenting on what she said- that this is a "restored original".

Until I actually held the piece in my hand any examined it closely, it's hard to judge by a photo only, 100%. Maybe it was really, really trashed. Or not.

Bet the buyer just didn't have the ability to compare what he was buying to an original......thank goodness for the UMA! Can't fool our family!

Based in Singapore....wouldn't be the first knockoff. Now they're basing them on vintage though :-[

Amy seemed very straight forward about the whole thing and my questions. I just think a $1500 minimum bid is high in this case, and will scare everyone away.

Apparently not everyone. It sold for $1500!

Interesting... The guy selling it is NOT the guy who won the auction in this threads' original post... Different feedback. How many of these stupid replicas are there?!?
