This Frankenstein nodder figure has been heavily restored, INCORRECTLY, IMHO.

Bidders, please beware.

Thanks for the input  bob, I myself thought it looked off.....not that if it was right I could cough up $1,500 right now anyway.

Are the colors correct? I don't know much about this piece.

I could be crazy , Bob, but I don't think this is a repaired original at all.... I think it is a newly sculpted fantasy piece done in the style of an original. Something along the lines of something I might do... The face sculpt is completely different, the suit jacket is incorrectly sculpted.

I think this is a fake. In fact I'd bet money on it. Every week at the Gurnee Antique mart, they fill up the cabinet of shame with repops and fakes, sometimes including vintage ceramicware memorabilia items like these... this strikes me as one of those fakes.

Wow...if that's a resculpt somebody went to a whole lot of trouble. In comparing them again, I think you are right- either a fantasy, or the head was a total disaster and was mostly rebuilt, as I have seen them do with nodders. If it is a total fake, you'd think they would have at least got the color right!

Yeah, completely different. Amongst other differences, the original has a fat belly and the fake is slender.

In all honesty, I thought the new sculpt looked more like Data than the Frankenstein monster.

Of course, never underestimate the ability of a dedicated "restorer" to make a dramatic statement with their efforts

Apparently this seller is the queen of nodder forgeries.

Here is a 1966 Batman nodder forgery she sold- definately a forgery/fake/remake of a "good" 1960s nodder (like the Frankenstein). Obviously buyers knew this, as this nodder goes for much more than $250 selling price.

...and a Roberto Clemente nodder that was sold that is...well...something...

I wrote the seller this morning about the Frank nodder and sent a link to the pic of the real thing. No response, yet!

I got an email back from the seller, "Amy", and she claims this was her late Grandfather's, who collected nodders, and that he definately sent it out for restoration and that he was not happy with the color in the end.

Apparently, the restorer of this piece was an "artist", but not a "pro" nodder restorer. If this is all the case, the head and body exhibit HUGE restoration, to the point of resculpt.

Amy seemed very straight forward about the whole thing and my questions. I just think a $1500 minimum bid is high in this case, and will scare everyone away.

You can see that the divots above the brow on the original don't line up with the ones on the ebay one.
