Dracula, Frankenstein and Bride?  Thanks!  I'm interested in getting the blu rays but only the restored ones!

Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Mummy, Invisible Man, Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera (1943) and Creature from the Black Lagoon were all restored for their Blu-ray presentations; Whether you buy the Essential Monsters collection or the stand alone Blu-rays.

What I would like to know, is which version is the best for these classic universal flicks. They just released the boxed set of a better looking LEGACY edition that they had about 10 years ago. With that, the Blu- Rays & the 75th Anniversary Editions, I would like to know what is the best version & why.

I believe the consensus is that the Blu-rays are tops, just look at any reviews/comparisons.  The films have never looked/sounded better, you get all the previous bonus features plus some new ones.

Ok, that sounds reasonable. But doesn't the latest DVD releases have the exact same special features? And if they remastered the movies & released em on both DVD & Blu-Ray, wouldn't it be the exact same remaster?

Yes, they are, but the BR are better, because they are BR.

Yep, they could release the HD masters on dvd and some are reporting that is indeed the case with the new Legacy/30 Film Collection.  If that's true then I'd settle for the dvd's but I'm still waiting for a real review of them;I still can't believe that Universal hasn't said word one about these being restored either digitally or in hi-def if they truely are the same prints as the Blu-ray.

I don't beleive that the new Legacy collections have the exact same special features.

I downloaded the Blu-ray prints and put them on individual 8gb discs and they still look great.  I posted threads with screen caps of the Creature from the Black Lagoon and A&C meet Frankenstein dvd vs. Blu-ray vs. the HD print on dvd.

You could always take the chance and buy the new sets but of course if the masters are the original Legacy masters or the Anniversary masters then you are stuck with them.

I'm not buying any of them, till I see if the sequels get a BR release. If they don't, I'll buy the Invisible Man set for the sequels, to replace the DVD18s.

You're not necessarily stuck with them. If you or anyone has a bunch of DVD's/Blu-Ray or CD's...some even take good vinyl....there's a store around these parts called Newbury comics & they have been around for quite some time. I'm sure there's other stores that do the same exact thing as NC, but they just have different names obviously.

I don't see why they wouldn't create some new documentary as either a bonus disc or just as a special feature about the restoration of these classics. The only thing I have stumbled upon is the restoration of the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi. Here it is for those who haven't check it out, but why have we been nothing of the other Universal flicks??? Forget just the main monster ones....RESTORE THE GREAT FILMS LIKE THE BLACK CAT/BODY SNATCHER/VAMPIRE BAT/SHOCK/THE BLACK ROOM/PHANTOM SHIP/WHITE ZOMBIE & all those classics. If not restore them, at least acknowledge them for what they are, great works of art/entertainment despite the simple flaws & mistakes that many aren't that obvious unless you looks for it. I would like to see a NEW documentary 5 hours long at the minimum of every damn piece of footage that features the likes of Boris Karloff/Bela Lugosi/Lon Chaney-(Jr.)/Vincent Price/Peter Lorre/etc...& if not all together in one mega-set, have them for each actor & just give us EVERYTHING before it's too late!!! As devoted fans we must contact the companies as the demand will get noticed obviously & they must give in if they care about their reputations, careers & legacy. The time is NOW!!!

I believe Dracula had the most work done on it.  I watched the blu ray version and it is stunning.
