Thought some of my comrades here in the UMA might enjoy the work of Lowbrow artist Isabel Samaras.  She's a San Francisco based artist who often depicts pop icons of 1960's and 70's in amusing , ridiculous or erotic scenes.  Her work is charming and whimsical  Sometimes she chooses monsters as her topic.  What follows are a few selected pieces, and a link to her website, Enjoy!

And her website:

Great thread, I've been a big fan of Samaras' work (and Lowbrow art in general) for quit a while.  In addition to the stuff you posted above, below are some of my other favorites of hers.

However, my all time favorite "Lowbrow" artist is the AMAZINGLY talented Todd Schorr.  And my favorite single work of his (if ever I'm called on to name a favorite) is the phenomenal "The Spectre of Monster Appeal".

This painting was purchased by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Another of Shorr's monster pieces that I really love is "The Parade of the Damned"

Shorr's work is pretty cool.  Its pretty clear that many so called "lowbrow" artists like portraying monsters in their work.  If any member have any other favorite lowbrow artists depicting monsters, post them here, love to see them.

Yeah, Schorr's stuff is just uh-maze-ing.  Really on a whole other level, there also HUGE.  I think that first one I posted is 90-something inches across.

Wolf Man

That is the first I have heard of monster low brow art.  I love it.  I will have to check out more.  If there are other cool ones to post please do.  I have enjoyed all the ones posted so far.

Todd Schoor is brilliant!!! If you like his style, check out paintings by Robert Williams. Robt. Williams pioneered the multi-layered, low-brow painting style.

Josh

Yeah, Robert Williams is pretty much THE MAN when it comes to lowbrow art, he kind of coined the term (as it applies to this movement of art) back in the early '80s,  not to mention his stuff is weird with a capital W.  I'd post some of his work but it rarely prominently features movie monsters.

Heres a few more peices, except for the Barr piece these were all featured in the "Crazy 4 Cult" art show last year (or was it the year before?)

Glenn Barr's "Eternah - First Floor" has a distinct b-movie retro vibe, this is just a detail that I've posted below, but you can see Ro-Man with his bubble machine.

Here is Gris Grimly's piece "I Woke Up Early the Day I Died"

Jason D'Aquino's "Joyride" (not classic horror/sci-fi per se, but I thought you guys might like this one anyway)

I love Johnny Eck and I love 'Freaks".  This is called, what else..."Johnny Eck" by Alex Pardee

The name of this piece alone is worth it, "Five Scrumdiddliumptious Youths" by Justin Degramo

Jason D'Aquino did this piece. "The Bride" on a library card

Mark Elliott's "Dinner with Tor"

Nope, I have looked high and low for hi-rez versions of the Schorr stuff with no luck.  HOWEVER, there is some hi-rez Schorr pieces that I have been able to find that you might like.  Take a look here and tell me what you think...
