Hasbro HYPO SQUIRT
« on: November 22, 2008, 10:53:19 PM »
In my honest opinion, there just weren't enough toys shaped like hypodermic needles made available to kids over the years...Though i didn't personally own one in my youth, i did have a memorable encounter with a friend who did. It was on or around my birthday in 1966. The Batman craze was in full swing and at my 9th birthday party my brother hand drew the bat insignia with black and yellow markers on white T-shirts for all my friends who attended. He did a great job and i LOVED wearing mine....Anyway, one day i noticed my friend John over in his yard with his back to me. I decided to sneak up on him Batman style and upon doing so, put my hand on his shoulder and spun him around , proudly displaying the oh, so cool bat emblem on my puffed out chest. It was at this time i saw he had a brand new Hypo Squirt aimed directly at my chest. He then proceeded to unload the whole chamber into my bat from about 12 inches away. Not only did it all but erase my bat, but also took what felt like a layer of my skin off, in the process. I stood there slack jawed, in disbelief while John laughed his ass off. And me with no Bat Insignia Restoration Spray in my utility belt!  After taking his Hypo Squirt , chasing him around his yard and literally beating him with it, i thought what a REALLY COOL toy this is! By the time i got around to looking for one, they were long gone from store shelves from parents complaining what a bad influence it was on kids... BUNCHA CRYBABIES!  Here's the first ever example i've ever seen on eBay, still on the card that i picked up for not much money not long ago....Hope someone out there has fond memories of this item too.

You mean they didn't want their kids to grow up to be doctors?

I had one like that, Gasport.  My brother and I used to squirt each other with it all the time :lol

There is a Munsters version in orange plastic that sells usually for several thousand dollars when it shows up.

Does anyone have a "Hypo-Phony"? I think that was the name... it had the retracting needle and a red plastic insert inside the tube that represented the "blood" you were removing from the victim! Picked that little beauty up at our local joke shop...

Along these lines,  our Halloween party last year had a "Young Frankenstein" theme. One of the items included it the gift bags was a pen in the shape of a hypodermic needle filled with red ink. The perfect thing when dolling out "Sed-a-gives"!

Yes they are, Bogey...I was into the Aurora T-Jets and early AFX cars BIG TIME. Saved all from when i was a kid and still pick 'em up occasionally on eBay. I love these things almost as much as my classic monster stuff.

My dad had a big set up in our basement in the late 60's early 70's.  They were the larger slot cars, if you know the ones I mean.  I believe he just recently sold them.  I believe they all went to Japan.  He  told me that they are a very hot item over there.  Would love to see some shots if you get the chance.  Just PM them to me and I will show them to my dad.

Is that Munsters Hypo Squirt as big as the regular one? If so, I never knew it was that large. That makes it even cooler!

With something this rare, where would one have found it new.  Was this a toy store item or mail item?  Thanks!

The Munsters was the same size as the clear one.  Yes.

And I think it was a store item.  I haven't heard of a mail order ad for it.

This is the ad for the Hypo-Phony from FM.

Thanks for posting that TR...I thought i had seen it in FM before. Wish i had that complete set of those monster rings, too! Actually, i'm STILL waiting for a Hunchback Aurora long box kit from Captain Company from 1965. Starting to think maybe they forgot about me.

Bogey, Your dad probably had the 1:24 size slot cars. They were larger than the HO versions i collect and not as abundant. Too bad your dad sold his, you obviously had a strong connection with them and would have enjoyed inheriting them...on the other hand, i bet they went for a LOT of $$ as an entire collection. I was thinking of posting some pix of my old cars, but this being a monster forum i didn't think anyone would care.

My cousin had a hypo-squirt--sucker could shoot 30 feet! Once in a while, though, it'd get some kind of vacuum lock and we'd have to get her dad to pull it apart.
