What I find interesting about "Dawn" and "Day" is that the biggest star of these films are the location. For "Dawn" it's the Mall and for "Day" it's the Mines. What a great title for a documentary, "The Mall and the Mines".  :) The mines were discussed at length in the new "Day" Blu Ray. They were in there for months so health and depression problems were an issue. There's a mini featurette where they revisited the mines today. Cool stuff.
I guess you can't get that depressed being in a shopping mall (unless it's Christmas time). I didn't even think about the cast having to nearly live in the mines. One thing that's great about Romero's actors is their loyalty. Look at the running commentaries & documentaries on the DVD's (even back to "Night of"). Just about every actor is involved years or decades after the fact. BTW, how is the picture quality compared to the Divamax version?

It is an all new film transfer but I only watched the special features last night. I'll probably watch the movie over the next couple of nights. Here's a review of this new Blu Ray. He says it's a lot better transfer but not a revelation. One thing I don't agree with him on is that he says the 85 minute documentary is a bit long but I disagree. I was riveted from beginning to end.

Thanks, Glenn, I'm a little bit hesitant about "upgrading" anything these days. Face it from VHS to Laser Discs to DVD to Blu-Ray to 4k...just how many nose hairs do we have to be able to count until we're satisfied.

I hear you. I mainly wanted it for the new documentary which was really good. Romero's original trilogy are one of the few things that I'll do double, triple and even quadruple dips on. Those movies ushered in a new era of horror.

I hear you. I feel the same way about the Universal Monsters, Hammer films, Halloween ('79), Texas Chainsaw ('74)...AND, of course, the original Romero trilogy (every zombie film/TV show since, owes a lot to these).

I'm satisfied with most of the DVDs I have. I might replace a few of them with BD. Most of the new stuff I buy is BD, but I still buy the occasional $5 DVD.

Looks like we're in the same camp here. My brother buys every new "updated" Blu-Ray. He's confessed to me that some are a step down from the DVD versions (mostly B-movies from the '80s).

Nothing wrong with DVD's. I still buy them too. When Blu Ray was a new format it was more common for companies to just slap the DVD transfer on to a Blu Ray so in that case there's no advantage. However when a Blu Ray is done right there's a big difference even when compared to an HD recording done from a DVR.

Yeah I still buy a lot of dvds too. There are so many great vintage sci-fi and horror flicks  unavailable on blue-ray that you don't have a choice. Or sometimes the Blue-ray is just too cost prohibitive.

When you talk about quality, I'm not convinced the Hammer blue-rays are a huge improvement over the dvds. But I'm a sucker for box set editions with books or some kind of collectible. If the Hammer Classics Volume 1 Blue-ray set comes with some thing cool, then I'll be tempted. Otherwise, I'm pretty satisfied with my dvd versions of the four movies.

I'm pretty sure the first Hammer set wont come with anything special. The most annoying thing about it is that they just stick some random Hammer films together and call them a "set". Jeez, make it a theme set (Dracula, Frankenstein, vampires etc.). I'm not buying any Hammer sets until they make sense. As for the Blu-Ray quality, it depends on the film. The "(Horror of) Dracula" restored Blu-Ray is exceptional. Unfortunately, it's not available in the U.S.. Even if you buy the import, you will need a region-free player to watch it (which I recommend getting).

I'm hesitant to pick up the new Abbott and Costello Meet the Monsters Collection DVD which is out 9/1/15 because I would expect it to come to Blu Ray eventually. Why there isn't a Blu Ray option to start with is perplexing and people online are questioning that decision already. This is going to be a must have item though.

You're absolutely right, Glenn (as usual). I'm pretty sure this is done on purpose. The whole home video game has always relied on reselling the same product. As soon as everybody buys the DVD set, the Blu-Ray counterpart will be announced. Then we all get the exact same product sold to us anew. I'm just surprised that they still sucker us into playing along.

While I think Blu rays are great ( The Universal Monsters Collection shows that when you really wish to make something look better you can) I am not upgrading everything. What a waste of money that would be.

I mean, we all of us already paid 14.99 each for vhs tapes that can now be found at garage sales for 25 cents each. Then we upgraded to dvds. How many dollars do we need to sink into "The Wasp Woman" over our lifetime?  I will buy the occasional blu ray "yowza" disc. Like House of Dark Shadows, the mentioned Universal set, and House of Long Shadows. Because they were never on a proper dvd.. or the restoration just really made them look better.

But I didnt buy either of the Vincent Price blu ray sets. The dvds are fine. The films are newer. I really don't need to count the pores of Vinney's nose or the acne scar on the neck of Anthony Carbone.

Some folks discuss dvds as if those who buy them are C.H.U.D.s. or something. ;D I have suits older than the dvd format. I aint gonna live forever. So, I gotta decide what I wanna spend my money on while I am still breathing. Upgrading a massive dvd collection to blu ray aint one of them.

Find London After Midnight.... and put that on Blu ray. That'll make everybody happy, lol. 8)
