That's true. I remember the prohibitive prices of Blu-rays. Now you can find some of them in the budget bins for under five bucks. Though if it's something I love (Universal, Hammer, eighties horror), I would rather pay more to get a flashy edition. I really hate the look of Blu-ray cases. That little blue strip on top, that reduces the box art even more, is annoying. I like the hardcover book editions (like Halloween) and the steel book versions. My brother collects unique DVD & Blu-ray packages. You should see the elaborate boxes they devise for "The Walking Dead" sets.

I have the special edition for season 2. This was the RV zombie that Andrea stabbed in the eye with a screw driver. It was the best one they've done so far IMO.

Oh yeah, that's a great one (definitely the best). Check out the new one coming out. It's a crawling zombie. My brother also has a Japanese Alien DVD set that's packaged in a huge Alien head. I think that's my favorite piece in his collection. There's also a Terminator with light up eyes, a Predator, Planet of the Apes etc. Now, THAT'S how you get my money (not some lame package without an insert).

I remember when the appeal of dvds was: they take up far less space than vhs tapes do, have better clarity and last forever. Now its all about steel books, big old zombie and Predator heads, Alien eggs and Caesar apes busts.

Its a madhouse! A madhouse! >:D >:D

People are screaming bloody murder about the price on the season 5 special edition though. It's retailing for $134.99 on Amazon! Way more than any of the previous seasons. I think I only paid something like $69.00 for the season 2 special edition. Of course now it's going for way more.

Yeah, but you have to remember that most of us collect toys, busts, statues etc. When you make it part of the DVD package, it makes it doubly attractive. You're also saving space, since your movies are now housed in your collectibles. I hope that makes sense (remember, I'm using collector logic here).

Yeah, my brother complained about that (just as he was pre-ordering it). It seems that some of these things (especially full TV seasons) keep going up in price. Blame Netflix for that. Most people just binge watch it there, rather than buying it. They have to sell it for a lot more money, since considerably less people are actually buying nowadays.

With all due respect to George this was a case where I liked the re-make better than the original. Bigger budget (obviously) and better acted. Where the original focused more on the government's ineptitude, the re-make focused more on the human drama aspect.

I hate movies that are available ONLY in specialized packaging.  They don't fit on the bloody shelf with all the other movies.

At least give us a choice in cases.

Get a bigger shelf. Specialized packages are cool. I think they're usually available in regular packaging most (if not all) of the time.

I whole-heartedly agree. I saw the remake in the theater and was blown away. Romero's original was the seed, but the remake is the full-grown flower.

My latest purchases:

All great stuff, Memph! Congrats.

Be on the lookout for this Code Red Eurohorror double feature. I ordered it from Code Red along with the Dr. Jekyll And The Werewolf/Vampire's Night Orgy double feature that you posted before they went OOP. The Night Of 1,000 Cats is big fun.

Too bad Code Red stuff goes OOP so quick. They must be a small operation.

Just picked this movie up on DVD (no Blu Ray available for this title). While critics panned it I really like this movie. Part of the reason is I saw it on a double bill with "Taste the Blood of Dracula" when I was a kid but it's also a great B monster movie. It was Joan Crawford's last film so the acting is a cut above your average B film and it had a great bad guy played by Michael Gough. Boy, his character was the kind you love to hate. Basically Trog is the missing link thawed out in modern times. He isn't evil or bad, he's like a backwards child that doesn't understand what he's doing. Joan Crawford is an anthropologist that tries to domesticate Trog and Michael Gough's character keeps trying to have Trog destroyed as he believes Trog is a menace to society. I also liked the make-up for Trog. I thought it was effective, especially the facial expressions. If you haven't seen this flick give it a try. The DVD can be had for next to nothing. Two thumbs up.

I saw "Trog" in the theater as a kid too. I wasn't lucky enough to see it with "Taste the Blood of Dracula", though. It was in a Saturday matinee on a double feature where "Trog" was the main event (believe it or not). It was goofy fun. I haven't seen it since. Glenn, don't hold your breath for a Blu-Ray, even "(Horror of) Dracula" hasn't been released on BR in this country. No respect for monster kids. :'(
