Some interesting Hasbro items recently sold on ebay
« on: April 19, 2014, 04:53:22 AM »
One seller had all six of the canvas boards from the 1963 & 1964 Hasbro 12 x 19 Oil Paint By Number sets, and though some are damaged, they sold relatively cheap (the neglect to mention Hasbro and Universal Monsters probably contributing to that). I was surprised the three rarer 1964 releases sold so low compared to the first series.

1963 Frankenstein's Monster sold $125

1963 Dracula sold $135.75

1963 Wolf Man sold $170.72
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Werewolf-Painting-Vampire-Frankenstein-Monster-Comix-Comic-Art-Pop-Art-/321372940587

1964 Creature From the Black Lagoon sold $61.00
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Creature-From-Black-Lagoon-Painting-Monster-Comix-Comic-Art-Pop-Art-/371040683654

1964 Mummy sold $61.00
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mummy-Painting-Vampire-Dracula-Monster-Comix-Comic-Art-Pop-Art-/371039404695

1964 Phantom of the Opera sold $102.34
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Phantom-of-Opera-Painting-Frankenstein-Monster-Comix-Comic-Art-Pop-Art-/371039415178

Again, while not perfect, some of these were had for quite a bargain. Here's another recent, well listed (and framed) Frankenstein's Monster sold $286.20:

Would these have been the canvases/pictures that were included in the paint sets and were the items to be painted?

By rights that Hasbro Horror House Paint by Number set should be among the most coveted items in monsterdom. Yet it doesn't seem to get the attention or love of such items as the Aquarium Creature, Frankenstein Bike Buddy, Glen Strange Bucket, Frankenstein Speaker Head,  MPC Horrorscope, Marx Frankenstein Robot or MPC Haunted Hulk. That leaves me bewildered. The only item from this list that I'd rank up there with the Hasbro Horror House Paint set is the MPC Haunted Hulk.

Toys always have more appeal than craft sets. Toys are 3 dimensional and don't require any skills to "play" with them. I love good monster art, so crafts and box art (including for toys) are some of my favorite monster items (especially from the '60s). I like the individual paint-by sets because of the great box art!

Dang, that's pretty!  I'd be happy to get an empty box.

Some of the old graphics are so much prettier than the new stuff.

I can't bring it to hand, but I've seen the catalogue ad for it, and I'm pretty sure it contained only the Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, and Wolf Man oil paint by number and pencil by number sets.

Is it the same graphic on both sides of the box? Or another monster? Id like to see that Gem sitting in my display case!

That wolfman  was painted really well, has that " Mod" look to it.

I was thinking the last Frankenstein had a "Night Gallery" vibe going for it.

They would all look good done in NG colors as a framed set.  I imagine them lining a long, dark hallway - Lit only by the small lights at the bottom of each picture.
