Monster Scenes Frankenstein
« on: December 13, 2007, 08:19:33 PM »
I just finished restoring a Monster Scenes Frankenstein, it's the one on the left.  I took an idea from Ray, and just went over the face, hands and feet with a light wash so that the glowing plastic underneath would show through.  I'm not 100% happy with the results, but it's better than it was before.  The one on the right is a resin recast that I painted some time ago.

Excellent job, they both look great. Is anyone currently offering recasts?

Thanks.  I think there are some places that offer the resin recast but I don't know where.  I just bought one at Wonderfest a couple years ago.  It's a really nice recast.

Tom,
I know what you mean!  If that one didn't have a ton of old paint on it that I had to strip and melt marks to sand and paint over, I would have left it all glow.  I do have one in my collection that I kept unpainted, and it's by far my favorite.

I agree. Love that kit. Something about those kits define another moment in my life. No longer young. Not yet old.
I was maturing just like the toys were.

I like the paint job.

Thanks again, guys.  I think the smaller scale might be what I like about them; that and the fact that you can pose them so they are dangerously close to being action figures.

Looks cool Andy, I would have went with a green or yellow wash though.  I love the MS kits, it's a shame they never got a legit re-issue.

These are on the top of my list along with of course, Big Frankie.

Excellent job, they both look great. Is anyone currently offering recasts?

Monsters in Motion occasionally has some cruddy one piece recasts, but for the good stuff try Retro Resin.

Very cool! I dig the MonsterScene Frankenstein

Mine's a resin recast and I still have to send out The Victim for paint

Actually, I'm working on releasing a recast of this kit myself someday. Some of the molds are already finished. In the meantime, Retro Resin has released a nice recast of this kit for $50.00

I'm gonna chime in here with Terry.  Retroresin has some very nice offereings on these particular Aurora recasts.  I've bought a few from them over the years and would buy more, BUT, he is VERY slow on delivery.  The end product is very well done but be prepared to wait months.  No kidding.  I've waited over six months for a delivery before.  The last order I placed was never sent but my card wasn't charged either so I just let it slide.  We can all get busy and things happen.  If you are willing to wait, the kits are nice!

Thanks for sharing that with us Chuck. I didn't know that. I haven't ordered anything from them, but I'd be a bit leary in doing so now.
