"Unknown Primate" Memorial?
« on: January 09, 2014, 01:41:10 PM »
I've been given permission by General Terry to pursue an idea. Our dear comrade Mark Stamper graced so many of us with his drawings, paintings, and sculptures before his untimely passing. Now, I would like to spearhead an Unknown Primate memorial kit or figure. We have many talented sculptors and kit-makers in our ranks. What I'd like to do is create something after Mark's own style, that could be cast and produced in a limited number, to honor him. I'm not a sculptor. But, I could try to coordinate things as best I can between other members. I'd also like to arrange it so that Mark's family is involved in every step of the process, with them receiving the majority of the "profits."

So, feedback is a must! What do you folks think of the idea?

I am actually going to do a sculpt based on that drawing Mark gave me-if it comes ouy nice I would be more than happy to have it used. I don't know anything about casting or producing kits, so having you, Dan, coordinating things would be great.

Great idea Count.Let me know if you need any info on moulding and casting as I do a lot of it.I'd also like to put my hand up for sculpting if that's ok with Redking.

Absolutely Dr Wolfenstein! I am strictly an amateur and really want Mark's memorial kit to be great!

Excellent idea, Count Z. What a perfect way to keep Mark with us.

I would also be willing to lend the Bigfoot picture Mark did for me to be used as box art and/or sculpting reference, as long as I could get it back. It has always been special to me, but now it is irreplaceable, but for this project, I can do nothing less.

I love Mark's work a great deal- enough that I'm not sure my skills would be up to duplicating his incredible musculature.  I could try, but no promises by any means, and I wouldn't feel right releasing anything that does not measure up .

This isn't something we'll be rushing into, so don't worry too much about sculpts right now. I still have to get in touch with Mark's wife, Liz, and get the family's approval, before proceeding. I just wanted to get the idea out to the UMA members for consideration.

I thought of that, but I think a figure might end up being too expensive. Unless we commissioned one from, say, Distinctive Dummies, perhaps? What say you folks? A resin bust/statue, or a Mego-scale action figure? If we did a figure instead, should it be of Mark Stamper the man, or Unknown Primate, the beast? And, remember, I still need the family's approval. But, I'd like a consensus before I approach them...don't want to be a pest about it, you know?

Or some of the guys here received a sculpt that Mark did himself -- that could be molded and cast up.  And the proceeds could go to his family.  I think it would be cool to use one of Mark's own sculptures, if the owner would agree to let it be molded.
