This may be the first time this one has been opened.  All the inserts are perfect, too:

Yeah, I did that too.  The first one I ever got was mint and sealed from 1963.  I hated to do it, but I had to know.  No monsters whatsoever in it, referenced or other wise.

Interesting that the pencils in yours are sitting where they are. Typically they're stapled to the bottom insert.  Looks like it might have been at one time.  Judging by the color of the box and the envelope, you got one from '64 if my study of them is correct.  Turn the brown folder over and read the back, it should offer more sets there too, but probably not the Monsters or Horror.

Does your Enlarg-a-graph have "Canada" stamped on it in white by chance?  Also, is the box double sided, or is the back blank?

Thanks,

You are right, I found where the pencils were stapled onto the insert and they were pulled off and placed into the unit.
This box is printed on all sides.  There are other sets advertised on the other side of the brown flder, but no monsters.
No CANADA stamp on it anywhere that I see.

Geesh, no wonder I turned out the way I did.

I'll say Bob! You sound as if you have all the ingredients to go totally ballistic!

I can see it in your eyes.

Great stuff guys and gals. First time I ever saw the inner contents of one of these playsets. Doesn't the $7.77 price tag just kick you in the gut. I used to dislike packaged toys that had price tags affixed. Now, as long as they are small and not blocking anything important, I think their kinda cool. Not only do they establish what the store the toy came from but obviously how much it sold for at retail. How did these sets sell at retail? I'm guessing not that well based on supply and demand? I'm trying to rationalize their very expensive $8000.00 price tag.

That's interesting.  I thought yours was the same issue as the one on the lower left of my photo, with yellow ink used in the printing vs gold on the ones to it's right and directly on top, but mine is printed only on one side.  The gold ink on the other two is almost like spray paint it is so thick.  Is yours like that and just lighter looking due to the flash or my computer screen?

No surprise about the monsters not being listed on the folder.  Your edition is just too early (63-64).  Cool that it is unused.  Another question: Is the card board insert a separate top and bottom, or are the attached to each other and folded around the enlarger?

Anyone know if they ever produced a Traceagraph boxed set?  Monster Bob, you seem like the fellow who would know?

Is this picture from our Media section not one of a Trace-a-graph boxed set?

Yes, there are two different refill sets, one with the plastic transparencies, and one with paper sheets with different art, both monster themed.

The short-hand info you tend to post is often so imprecise that it's misleading. I'm guessing that the plastic transparency refill set would be for the Enlarg-a-graph while the paper sheer refill set would be for the Trace-a-graph. Is that correct?

Here are the pics of it from the archive:

In the meantime, here's a pic I snapped a little while back when I was comparing my amassment of boxed Enlarg-a-graphs:

More from the photo pile: note the hanged man right on the cover of the box, and the $7.77 retail price!

Here are some pictures to replace the ones that have been lost or else obscured by Photobucket:
