My Top 15 Greatest Toys Ever!!

Yea! The ones with the players that slide like the set pictured! Not the static ones that just twirled.....

I kinda interpret the title as asking what "I" think are the top 15 greatest toys ever....not necessarily own em. Lot of this turns out to be made by Marx...what a great toy company!

The above five from your list are currently fairly high on my informal miscellaneous toy want list. I still remember how awesome the Marx Great Garloo looked to me the first time I laid eyes on one at the age of nine in the downtown London Kresge store. I pointed it out to my mother immediately but it was too much of a toy for which to ask and I knew it. I quickly forgot all about it until I saw it pictured in Bill Bruegman's book some twenty years ago. Yes, yes, that was the fellow I saw at Kresge's that day so very long ago!



Incidentally, I highly recommend Bruegman's book to any baby boomer or toy collector. I absolutely marvelled at how it hit upon precisely the toys I treasured the most as a kid.

 No particular order and these are only toys I actually owned.  I've tried to widdle it down to the one main "greatest-to-me" toy in each line.  My brain hurts trying to single out one, but here goes!

1.  12" GI JOE - My all-time favorite was a bearded & battered, brown haired brutish wrestler-type.

2.  BEST OF THE WEST (including The Silver Knight, etc.) - CHIEF CHEROKEE was my main fave.

3.  CREEPY CRAWLERS/FRIGHT FACTORY - Couldn't decide which one I liked best.  Probably FF.

4.  MARX 5-6" MONSTERS - CREATURE was my personal fave.

5.  MPC SMALL MONSTERS - Never owned Pop-Tops  .  WOLF MAN/WEREWOLF was my favorite.

6.  ITC MARVEL METAL GORILLA MODEL - Loved this thing.  Hard to even find pics of it now!

7.  AURORA MONSTER MODELS - FRANKENSTEIN.  No, KING KONG.  I mean FRANKENSTEIN...

8.  FORT APACHE PLAYSET - Think it was by MARX.  It frequently got attacked by...

9.  DINOSAURS! - Can't remember who made what, but the greatest, in my mind, was a T-REX.

10. ALLIGATOR - Don't know who made it, but it was 10-12" long and fought other monsters and...

11. ARMY MEN! - Yikes! 2-3" SIZE.  So many to choose from!  But, I did have two favorites!

12. PALMER MONSTERS - KING KONG...  or maybe FRANKENSTEIN...  no, no...  KING KONG.

13. HOT WHEELS - 1968 GOLD CUSTOM T-BIRD.

14. MARX MIGHTY KONG!!!!

15. A LITTLE, 2" HARD PLASTIC, HALF BULL/HALF BUFFALO FIGURE - No idea of it's background,
     but, to me, it was the greatest "King-of-Beasts" of my animal kingdom
