"Area 51 UFO" from Pegasus Hobbies

Always thought the look of this kit was neat, but didn't think the suggested silver-grey finish worked with the ship's transparent green pieces.  Decided to take a cue from the Martian ships from George Pal's WAR OF THE WORLDS and go with a copper finish.

Count, I still see these in hobby shops, and I think they're available online from either Pegasus direct and/or Steve Iverson's CultTvMan website.

It would be very tempting to add interior lights.

Batman, although this is not a snap-together kit the parts fit together pretty snug.  Because of that, I didn't glue the two saucer halves together so I could pop it open later and add lights.  I've got that Testors UFO kit you mentioned (which I see Lindberg recently reissued), but I haven't built it yet as I haven't made up my mind the approach I want to use.

Thanks, DH!  I wanted that "scorched atmosphere entry" effect.  Base coat is Testors copper enamel, with a wash of Tamiya flat black acrylic (50/50 mix of paint and rubbing alcohol) applied in sections with a 1/4" brush and then wiped away with a damp cloth.  A little Testors brass enamel dry-brushed onto some of the dark areas to create some subtle metallic streaking to touch it up, and then sealed with Dullcoat.

Exactly, that's what I was thinking too as I look at this piece. It should have that look, not
a bright, shiny silver "show-room" finish, IMO. I also love the way the weathering seems
to "fan" out from the center of the craft to suggest it's spinning in flight. Again, beautiful
work!

That effect is created when wiping off the excess wash with the damp cloth.  Start at the top of the craft and wipe in a downward direction.

Really nice top and bottom views of the craft. The wash came out great. Just purchased a Mobeus, War of the Worlds, war machine saucer and you've inspired me with ideas

The copper and brass give it almost a steampunk look. Add a few exterior gears and cogs, and it could be London 1898 instead of 1947 New Mexico!
