70's Godzilla with the hand that shoots off...
« on: June 09, 2013, 08:20:48 PM »
I had two of these growing up and both were lost to the ages.  I would seriously give my left one to have another one in at least good shape, or a time machine so I could go back and keep one in the box.  He had wheels on his feet, regular spikes on his back and a lever on the back of his head that operated a 'tongue'of fire that came out of his mouth.  I saw one a decade ago going for like $150 and had I the bread, it'd be happily collecting dust as I type this.  I just realized this should be in the wanted/for sale thread, but does anyone have any info?  Thank you all in advance.

My son still has his that he got for Christmas back then, but no box. I doubt he would ever part with it...sentimental value.

Yeah, I hear ya.  Shogun, okay.  Maybe I'll check on ebay.  I don't blame your son about not wanting to part with it.  So no parental pressure, please. :)  Will find one on my own.

Yeah, I looked.  There's a couple for cheap cause the lever's broken and the hand is missing, and some more pristine ones people are trying to get a grand for.

This is a very common toy. It's beloved among collectors who grew up in the 70s, so it is always in demand. But even with the demand, a couple hundred bucks will easily buy a boxed one. They turn up on ebay all the time. Just search for Shogun Godzilla. It's a really cool toy, very iconic, but not at all challenging to obtain. Its counterpart is the Mattel Rodan, a rarer toy that commands a higher price.

Ditto what Ray said. I sold a mint, unused store stock one on ebay about four or five years ago, the nicest one I ever saw, for three hundred and change. Loose with no hand, it is incredibly easy to obtain. With hand, a bit tougher.

Yeah.  Sadly I HAD a Rodan, too.  Gone.  No clue where.  Probably broken, then tossed by a parental unit.  Thanks for all the info, dudes.

I remember the commercials for that toy.  Godzilla has become one of my fav. monsters over time...along with MOTHRA.

The red lever seems to be always missing. I had two, but sold one to a friend. The Shogun Godzilla is really difficult to
find with all its components. Especially at a fair price. But...be patient. You will locate one.

Same's true for me. I wouldn't give mine up for nothing. Had it since new, but I don't ever remember the box. Was probably thrown out minutes after I opened it he he. The hand is still with him but it's come apart. It shoots fine, but takes quite some time to get it back into the arm. And oh yea, the tongue lever has broken but there is enough of a stub to still activate it. A couple common problems with these fellows!
