My little tribute to the total professional and all-round gent Peter Cushing, born this day in 1913. I'll be adding a mix of new and older portraits when I can. I may even make this the place to post all future Cushing artwork.

Excellent, you have really caught the intelligence he put into his performances.

Beautiful work! Cushing was definitely one of a kind.

Fantastic art work!  Everything is so beautifully presented, and I can feel the essence of the great Peter Cushing in all his glory!
What an actor! And you are brilliant markchro!  You have dazzled us once more  :)
BTW- Since you are an artist and I am not, do you see a slight resemblance between a thin Michael Fassbender and a young Peter Cushing?  I sometimes see it, but I'm not sure if it's all that close of a resemblance.

markchro

Thank you Carts, Foolish Mortal and Charp13 for your lovely compliments  :)

I hope I'm capturing the essence of what Peter brought to his roles. The films may not have always been great, but you could always depend on Peter to make his role something special.

Charp! I can understand why you see a resemblance of some sort with Fassbender and Cushing. I think it's more about their strong presence on the screen.

Illoman

Two more gorgeous pieces of Markchro wonderment!! Mark, I love how you nail the likeness early in the execution. Bravo, sir!!

When you can just scroll down to see his eyes and instantly know who it is..., quite a talent.  ;)

markchro

Thanks Illoman and Foolish Mortal!

Yeah, if I don't get the likeness at the start, then I wont go any further until I'm there or start again on  a new piece of paper. But most of my artwork is acrylics on board now and the medium is very forgiving. It allows me to paint over mistakes and fine tune details. Sometimes I wil go backwards on an area, block it out and repaint the critical stuff.

Some portraits flow really well while others can be a a real test of my mettle...and patience!  :)  I like a challenge!

More Peter tomorrow!

Two more early marker pen and gouache drawings of Peter.

Peter as Dr.Shreck, from Dr. Terror's House of Horrors.

Peter as Sherlock Holmes, in Hammer's The Hound of the Baskervilles.

I was quite surprised that a couple of my drawings, Holmes and David Peel would eventually team up as the cover artwork for the eBook edition of David Stuart Davies' The Tangled Skein!  :)

Earth 2 Chris

Wow...beautiful work!!! It's stunning!

Happy belated birthday to one of my favorite actors. Always gave 100% in every role. You never doubted him for a moment, as hero or fiend!
