We were listening to the radio this afternoon .. and 'I Love You' was played but it was all wrong in some strange ways and then the DJ said that it was by People ..  I'd never heard the cover before and have since looked it up .. this cover version was released in 1968 and hit number 14 on the billboard chart and did much better than the original by the Zombies which didn't chart at all, which pissed Colin Blunstone off ..

The Zombies first released 'I Love You' as the b side to 'Whenever You're Ready' in 1965.

Further reading quoted Colin Blunstone as stating 'that it isn't one of his favorite songs' .. what I find amusing in his statement is that the three times that we've seen 'The Zombies' in 2007, 2009 and 2013 .. 'I Love You' was the opening song.

Listen for yourself ...

The Original version .. written by Chris White ..

Interesting! They're very similar and i really like them both. I'll have to give them a few more listens.

That is awesome.  I actually know that 2nd version, the charter and like it too (sort of) but that ZOMBIES original is awesome and far superior.  PEOPLE added a DOORS-like electric organ... groovy (but not good).   ;D

^^^ I agree and when the song first started (People's cover) .. I thought that it was an intro to a Doors tune and was trying to figure out which one.

People also slowed down the tempo. The Zombies' version is funkier and more pronounced.

The Zombies version has a "classic" sixties sound to it.
"Traveler of both time and space..."

I ended up voting for the Zombies' original release.
