Cool Ghoul article

Several months ago, I received an email from a journalist, asking to use my portrait of Cincinnati's Cool Ghoul, Dick VonHoene, in an article they were doing about him. It was the 40th anniversary of his first show. I told them yes, and we would discuss my fee. Of course, the discussion never took place, and they used my painting, but what the hey; it's the Cool Ghoul!!! This guy and his show meant a lot to me when I was a monster kid. Every Saturday night I would drag the teevee from my parent's bedroom into mine, turn to channel 19 from Cincy, and watch Scream-In!! Here's the article:

(Have to admit, though, that though I was born Buckeye, this adopted NYer really prefers the ORIGINAL "Cool Ghoul"!)

Craig, I'm sure everyone is loyal to their own hometown horror host! We actually had Dr Creep here in Dayton, but I really preferred the Cool Ghoul. Man, I miss that show. I wish someone would turn up some video from it. There was another late show movie host named Bob Shreve. Luckily, a bunch of videos (some complete!) of his show from the late 70's early 80's have surfaced.

 An excellent painting there Mike, and a very cool article.  We had monster movies Fri. night and Sat. mornings in Columbia, S.C., but weren't as fortunate as the rest of you in that we had no host to introduce them.  We make up for the loss now, cause Josie collects every Horror Host DVD or VHS she can git her claws on. Creepysfan, thanks for checking it out. The Ghoul was an important part of my growing up. There were very few people at school that were into monsters. The Ghoul provided a "club house" where you could enjoy watching Bela, Boris, Lon, etc... and feel you were among friends.

Same here in Georgetown,S.C.,late night horror show,but no horror host.All there was ,was a voice that introduced "OUT OF THIS WORLD" out of Charleston,S.C..

Very cool -- but they shouldn't have used it without agreeing on a payment amount.  You should send them an invoice for whatever you would have charged.  They know full well that illustrations aren't free and should have arranged to pay you.
