'Batman: The Dark Knight Returns' - Parts 1&2
« on: March 05, 2013, 03:54:38 PM »
So, I just watched these animated features based on Frank Miller & Klaus Jensen's epic, futuristic tale of Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement as The Batman after a decade of forced inactivity.

I remember when the original comics came out as a four-issue mini-series. Given its phenomenal popularity, I'm really surprised it took Warner Bros. this long to do anything with it. There had been rumors of a live-action film so far back, both Clint Eastwood and Charlton Heston had been mentioned as possible lead candidates for Bruce Wayne/Batman. I think "Kick-Ass" ended up taking some of the interest away from doing BTDKR as live-action, too.

What they ended up doing was...pretty good. I felt the Harvey Dent/Two-Face storyline in Part 1 was  a bit flat, but the Mutants were done well. Didn't care for the voice actor for The Joker in Part 2 at all. Peter Weller was a good choice for Batman, and David Selby was a great Jim Gordon. The character designs were fairly true to Miller, but still had a bit of an anime look. Overall, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I still need to see this. Even though I am very interested I'm afraid I would spend too much time comparing it to the original comic. Not to mention the short version of it that was featured in an episode of Batman The Animated Series.

Some of the better voice-casting in it was Ariel Winter as Carrie Kelly/Robin and Conan O'Brien as David Endochrine.
Wouldn't mind seeing the same voice cast coming back for "Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again." And, the Lovecraft fan in me would like to see them do "The Doom That Came to Gotham."

I don't understand why WB insists on casting different "name" actors as Bats and Joker when Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are hands down the best actors to ever do these characters in any medium!Still I would like to see this as the original comic is so great and I usually enjoy the DCAU movies.
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

Conroy is back for "Batman/Superman: Public Enemies," as are Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor and Tim Daly as Superman.

I thought Peter Weller made a good Bruce Wayne/Batman for BTDKR. Michael Emerson was just blah as The Joker. Yeah, Mark Hamill would've been a better choice, as would Richard Moll as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, instead of Wade Williams.

Just picked up the deluxe edition with both parts put together. I'm liking it so far, but even though Peter Weller is doing a good job, the movie needs Kevin Conroy as Batman.

I found him the least objectionable voice change. Even Joe DiMaggio would have been a better Joker (he was decent in "Batman: Under the Red Hood").

He did a good job, but i just will forever relate an animated Batman to Kevin Conroy. I agree, that Joker was horrible. At times he sounded like Milton Berle. Mark Hamill was also missed in this. I think everyone else worked rather well. i always liked Carrie Kelly and I think the girl that did her voice did very well.
