I would soooo buy one (hardcover 1st edition, please). I there even a book on Universal Monsters movie poster/lobby card art? If there isn't, there definitely needs to be one.

I wish these could've been used as DVD art work. The films were recently rereleased on BluRay but they reverted back to the poster art.

That's because marketing has no idea what it's doing.

Trust me, Universal is capable of much worse than using classic poster art.

I don't dislike the poster art. Old school fans probably prefer that anyways. I was happy that the Jaws Blu-Ray cover used the poster cover image that first appeared on the paperback book as opposed to the recreated versions that were used on the past DVD covers. However those early 90s artworks for the Universal Monsters are just fantastic! Very hypnotic and just great to look at. I also do have one complaint in regards to using the posters as the covers, why is it they don't use an original Frankenstein poster as opposed to the reissue poster??!!

Good question. Sideshow was able to use a variety of poster art on their beautiful 12" figure boxes. They could definitely mix it up for the dvd/Blu-ray releases. Maybe they keep using the same posters over & over for consumer recognition sake.

This was the artwork for the VHS standees/display cases in the video stores.
The originals and still the greatest!

Thanks for posting this thread. Those beautiful graphics really do deserve a book to feature them. I totally agree, that "House of Wax" laser release was designed to resemble the style Universal was using then. I also like these much better than the poster discs.
When I was working at a Blockbuster in that time period, the chain had a big tie-in promotion with Universal. The had small counter/shelf tops that had adaptions of the artwork, pretty much from Frankenstein,  The Bride, Dracula, The Wolfman. The also had two double-sided hanging hard cardboard posted, box shaped about 3 feet by 2 feet. They were of the Dracula/Frankenstein and Wolfman/Creature Walks Among Us. One does have to wonder why the latter more esoteric image was used rather than the original Creature or The Mummy. (Shows some real lack of skill at Universal's side on that choice.) They are unadorned with any lettering or graphics. Nice collectibles in themselves.

So, did you get to take any of them home?  :)
