The little paperbacks? What kind of protective cover was it?

Simple brown paper like people used to wrap packages in - remember when people used to tie packages up with string?  White butcher paper is good, too.

Cut a piece a little larger than the outer cover of any book.  Fold it at top and bottom just a tiny bit taller than the binding and stick one flap inside.  Bend it around the book and tuck the other flap in so it fits snuggly.

If the book has a paper jacket, take it off and put it somewhere safe first.  I used to cover all my school books, too.  (Works well for library books you want to pass of as textbooks, since you can label them whatever you want.)

Just buy a cheap, beat-up copy, if you really need to read it.

That's a good idea!

Still not sure how that keeps a PB book's spine from cracking when you open the book far enough to read it.

I use Mylar covers on my HC dust jackets.

I prefer the ones from Demco over the ones from Gaylord Brothers.

With the paper backing?  Demco's are plain plastic.

I worked for large library, assigning Dewy Decimal numbers to anything that was not already in the Library of Congress system, covering the books, doing minor repairs - everything behind the scenes.  We got both companies' catalogs but ordered all our covers from Demco.  I still used them on my personal books.

To each his own.

I use the ones without the paper.

It said "without paper backing".
