Star Wars films are made primarily to entertain small children. Now, under Disney, they will probably be even more juvenile.

I'll agree as far as the Star Wars Holiday Special, Ewoks (cartoon, comic and made for tv movies), Droids (cartoon and comic) and the prequels are concerned and to a lesser extent Return of the Jedi but the original Star Wars and Empire were definitely not made to primarily entertain small children!  The original scripts shopped around for Star Wars even included a note from Lucas that he intended them for all generations and ages!!  The only reason I include Return of the Jedi is the decision that was made to change Wookies into Ewoks, though I've heard two reasons for that; one was budget (you could get 2 Ewok suits for the cost of one Wookie) and the other is Ewoks were going to be more marketable, especially to girls!

Now, under Disney, they will probably be even more juvenile.

They actually look to be distancing themselves from Lucas' re-imagined aesthetic of the Star Wars universe; I think that is a big reason that Clone Wars was canceled!  I would love to see alien dialect again with subtitles instead of stereotypical-ethnic voices like in the prequels but I doubt that will happen!  And the humor needs to be made more organic like in the original trilogy than the slapstick-cartoon antics of the prequels (Which is something that Clone Wars was getting right!).

An entire planet being wiped out, and Luke's Aunt and Uncle being turned to skeletal remains.  Not that different from what you might find on Sesame Street.

Yes, but all that was done in a lightweight, cartoony way with no bloodshed. I've always been a Star Wars hater (since the very first film). My Star Wars friends had always told me that you had to see them on the big screen in a packed theater. I did that when they were rereleased in the late nineties. They annoyed me even more in that setting. The theater was packed with small kids and their soccer moms (and dads). My girlfriend and I both looked at each other at one point and said "this is crap" and walked out before the film ended. Sorry, I guess some people are Lucas folks and others are Tarantino's.

I've seen the original versions on VHS and they still bored me silly (too starry-eyed and goody two shoes for me). In all fairness, I'm not a big sci-fi fan (classic horror, slasher flicks, torture porn and girl/girl porn for me).

Yes, because seeing Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen screaming in pain, as the flesh is seared from their bodies would have been much more effective for the adult audiences, and if the little crumb crunchers watching this have nightmares, well stop bringing your brats to the movies!

Now you're talkin'! I would have loved to have seen blood gushing out of Luke's hand when it got cut off. Also, a graphic sex scene with Luke & Leia (Chewbacca filming) before he finds out it's his sister. The sequel can feature a mutant baby (like in Eraserhead) that comes out of that little venture. Then you would definitely get my attention.

I think you may have something there, dude. We could get Tarantino and Peter North to direct (North could do wonders with that Luke & Layya scene), and put Tom Savini in charge of special effects and general gushery (...of blood, North on the other). Vern Troyer could squirm about as the little mutant brat. Jamie Lynn would make a more-than-moist Princess Layya. Really spice up those space shenanigans. Call it "Star Wars, After Dark (Side Of The Force), Parts 4 through 3". Gotta keep the eftup sequel numbering.  >:D ;)

I can see you've given this some serious thought (which is more than Lucas ever did). Maybe they can bring in Romero to do a Star Wars zombie spin-off series (Vern Troyer can come back as a zombie Ewok).

Jamie Lynn would make a swell Princess Layya.

Serious thought...nahhh. This kind of useless crap bounces around in my noggin continually. Yeah, let's zombie up that space opera with a little Romero and Savini. Anything to shake things up. I'm as burned out on Star Wars as I am superheroes. Of course, zombies have been done to death, too.  ;D  But with talent like Romero and Savini it could be fun.

I never tire of Romero or Savini (though I feel the same way you do about Star Wars & superheroes).
