Actually, I kind of find it hard to think of either gender wanting to get intimate with Jar Jar.

“Star Wars Rebels” animated TV series announced to pick up where “The Clone Wars” left off for Disney Channel and Disney XD

"the new series is set between the events of Episode III and IV, this time featuring the Empire “hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

I enjoyed Clone Wars for what it was and thought Lucas' new Star Wars Universe worked for an animated series much more than it ever could for live-action features!  I'll be looking forward to the premier of this one!

They are really getting my hopes up for the Star Wars Rebels series!!  Star Wars haters need not read or reply!!   :D

"The next Star Wars TV series is embracing an era from a long, long time ago: 1977. Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels is the franchise’s first major storytelling return to the original trilogy since Return of the Jedi, with producers even utilizing original trilogy artist Ralph McQuarrie’s decades-old and previously unused concept art for aliens, planet and vehicles. Below executive producer Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) tells EW his plan for the new show — as much as he can at this early stage, anyway — which premieres this fall.

How will this look or feel different from Clone Wars?
It will look quite different. The intention of what I’ve seen so afar, and we’re pretty far down the line, the intention is for it to feel quite different from Clone Wars. The place we went back to as to a visual template was Ralph McQuarrie, who was one of the original concept artists for the original Star Wars films. His art is softer, a little more figurative, more of a feel of being drawn, less computer generated. The first few movies had a bit of a hand-made quality. We wanted the show to have that. There’s also in the archives where [creator George] Lucas keeps all the original art and props, there’s tons of art that’s McQuarrie’s musing on the Star Wars universe that was never used in the films. There’s places where we’ve quite literally taken world-creation or vehicles or creatures from his original art that was never used in the films and made that part of show.

That’s fantastic. What about story-telling differences? How dark can you go on Disney XD?
We haven’t talked in those terms. But the world we’re creating is an Imperial world. You’re seeing the impact of the Empire, of stormtroopers around the galaxy, abusing and oppressing people. Thematically and politically, it goes to some dark places. But for the tone of the show we took our cues from the original movies, which had fun and adventure and swashbuckling with emotion and grounded human characters. We took all our cues from the original films. Obviously there are slight tonal differences between New Hope, Empire and Jedi. But I think the closest intended voice of the show is A New Hope. So there are places where we get into darker backstories, there are places we see how cruel and malevolent the Empire can be, but for the most part it’s a fun and character-driven story. Again taking our cues from the original films, it’s less maybe political than the prequels and more personal. It starts with a few character introductions that will precede the show. I wrote the first two episodes, they’re like a one-hour story across two episodes where we introduce the main characters in the show."

Another interesting tidbit~

"Is Darth Vader and the Emperor in the show? And if so is any possibility of the original voice talent being used?

I don’t think I’m allowed to answer that. I can say that wherever possible we would want to use the original talent."

Hmmmm........James Earl Jones is doing Sprint commercials so voicing Darth Vader again can't be beyond the realm of possibilities!

I'm very excited about this news! I cried at the end of TCW series finale, but I've since pulled myself together!   :)   I also have decided that I will welcome the comic series that will finish the last of the Darth Maul story that they didn't cover on TCW series.

That's what I read a few months ago. I wish they would tack the episodes on to the final season dvd! I would buy it, just to watch the unaired episodes! I bought the Nightsisters Trilogy episodes from ITunes when it came out, because there were a few extra minutes they didn't show on tv   :)

This is off topic...but I'm thinking about  making a Dathomirian scene in my yard haunt this year. It will be small, of course- a few witches & I have an old Savage Opress costume that my grandson donated & maybe I can get a Rancor- hahahaha! I wish I had artistic skills! I would build so many big props...but alas, I am just a medium-old lady amateur haunter   :)

The question was how dark could they go with the new series.  Since this is supposed to be close to "New Hope", a better question would be, is there anything so dark in the first released Star Wars movie, that would have to be cut out, if it was to be shown on Disney XD?

There's nothing all that graphic in any of the Star Wars movies; some instances I can think of are; Obi-Wan slicing off a guy's hand in A New Hope, Luke slicing off the Wampa's arm and Han slicing open the Tauntaun in Empire.  The most graphic thing about the prequels was Obi-Wan and Anakin's fight at the end of Revenge of the Sith when Anakin becomes a quadruple amputee (Although I'm pretty sure that by the prequels they were showing the wounds cauterized instead of the blood shown in the originals.).  Which none of that would have to be edited on any channel.  There are definitely dark themes/situations in the Star Wars universe and given the timeframe of this show there won't be any avoiding war, death, slavery, torture but they also don't have to be shown graphically to be effective!
