1965 Eldon Pin The Monster Head Game
« on: November 16, 2012, 07:52:40 AM »
I won this on eBay the other day, and decided to start it's own thread for the purpose of education and archiving.

This piece is dated 1965 and was made by Eldon Industries. There is no Universal licensing on it. It folds up fairly small (15"x15") but opened up it is 59" (almost 5') tall. That includes the promotional panel and the monster heads panel.

The promotional panel has Boris Karloff heads, and the actual toy has a stylized monster that is not Karloff. There is no Universal licensing on it.  The example shown in the UMA archive is the same as the one I now own. The picture was uploaded in 2010 with many other pictures. There is a picture in the old Yahoo group of a different one. (note, you will not be able to see these pics if you are not logged in)

There is some writing on the promotional panel on this and mine, which matches.

These are the pics from the old Yahoo Group.

As you can see in the Yahoo Group pics, the monster head on the promo panel shows Karloff heads, and the actual toy has stylized monster heads.

Here is my picture.

And a link to the full size.  Please note you may have to click to enlarge this, depending on your browser.

This HAS to be rare.  Most large paper toys from 1965 would have been folded, creased or spilled on by now.  And the only way to play this game is to tear it all apart.

I was convinced that this was just the second one of these I had ever seen, but if the pictures date back to 2010, it may be the ONLY example I have ever seen.

Strangely cool.

Would this have been the same Eldon that made the slot car race sets?

That's why games with unburst play pieces are king!

I know of three that exist for sure.  Definitely a rare item.  Congratulations on winning that one!

Welcome to the UMA, MERCAT !  :)

I don't know the value, but maybe somebody does. If there are only 3, it's probably whatever the last one sold for.

Like anything else, the value is what you are willing to pay for it.  Now, I do not know if they were Eldon marked, but a guy at a toy show in 2014-2015, (have to check my travel dates on exactly when), had a box of these folded up in cellophane bags. I do not recall the company name/manufacturer as Eldon.
I remember all his stuff at booth was under $100.00 . Now Eldon used to buy stuff from other countries and package it like their own. So many other companies might of had this "pin the tail on the donkey" style party game out there in the marketplace also.

I'd like to know what anyone paid for the game or has seen it selling for. I have the monster poster and sheet that folds to be a cover with all the heads; nine were punched out but they are all there. As far as I can tell nothing is missing from original contents. Instructions are printed on the back of the folder. It is the same game as shown in the post that started this thread.

Only you would know that. Bobby said there is a different one. Not sure if the part in the top photo came with the game? Bobby calls it a "promotional panel".

From the little my research turned up, Eldon did a series of "Have a Party" games. This particular one was copyrighted on Feb. 15, 1965.  You can see in the posted photos how it came as one folded and perforated piece. Mine was played once so the monster section and some heads were detached. This was my own game as a child, bought for a Halloween party I had. I also have the Ideal Haunted House game and found this game stored in the box with the Haunted House.
I think perhaps what he meant by "promotional panel" is just that it is the section where info was printed.
