I've posted this story more than once, but it is my "best" experience with realms of the unknown...

One Christmas back in the 60s my sister received a Ouija board as a gift. I was about 8, she would have been 12. Her best friend from down the street came to visit Christmas afternoon to share "What'd ya get?" stories. Eventually my sister got around to showing her friend the Ouija board. As you'd expect, we started playing with it, asking silly questions and giggling over forced answers. As we tried to come up with more questions, her friend suggested asking it, "Is there really a Santa Claus?" My sister and I put our fingers on the planchette and asked the question. After a hesitation, it started moving. The answer it spelled out was,
"Only in the hearts of little children".
I never played with it again.

According to many people, Chris, Quija boards are pure evil. They bring nothing but grief to the owner and user.

I don't believe in "ghosts", per- se, but I do believe that there are specific "energies" that can surround an area or areas where the deceased lived, worked, spent his/her childhood, is resting, etc.

ChrisW - Talk about coincidence!  I was just thinking about an Ouija experience I had 38 years ago.  I was going to resurrect this thread - cue the creepy music.  It's a rather lengthy story, but I'll post it soon.  Also, my Mom related an Ouija incident to me awhile back that happened to some of her friends.

All I can say, so far.... is that if you're visiting a place with a young child. and that child doesn't like it, believe him or her.  Don't try to "reason" or chide the kid for "making up stories".  They're NOT, and probably couldn't describe their feelings if they wanted to.  BELIEVE THEM.

I remember disliking my Gran's Apartment House intensely...to the point that I'd bolt up three flights of stairs like Roger Bannister.  HER Apartment, where my mom and uncle grew up, was wonderful.  The family had moved in in 1930, and the grandparents were still there in 1960.
I always remember that Gran would come to the stairs to see us off, holding my hand as we went past the "bad" place.  I also remember finding out (in my 30s) that a tenant had suicided in an apartment 3 Doors Away from Gran's......In 1917.  Thirteen years before my family moved to the building, and One year before my Mom was Born!

God Bless my precious "Wemma", who was never "practical" or "common sensical" with me.

When children are in fear of something, no matter what it is or no matter the reason, you have to listen because the fear (for them) is genuine.

I'm absolutely certain that most people have, at one time or another had an "experience" with ghosts, aberrations, shadows, sounds, etc. at one time or another in their life, be it childhood or adulthood.

I believe in both the supernatural and paranormal. Over the years I and my wife have experienced too many things that cannot be explained scientifically or debunked.
The majority of them have happened in my present house (been here almost 13 years) and it seems to be linked to the land. At least that is the best guess because a few other houses in my immediate area have had things happen too.
Here is just one of the many things that have occurred.
One day on a weekend I had helped my wife move some stuff in her room around. She had set an empty prescription bottle on her book shelf/tv stand. The bottle fell behind the shelf on it's own. Neither one of us had touched it or bumped the shelf. So I moved the shelf out to get it but I could not see it. Eventually I had the whole shelf a foot away from the wall and went through all the wires and cable line in case it had got caught in them. Though I doubted because we both heard it hit the floor. The bottle was no where to be found. We figured it was our little visitor playing a prank on us again. A week later my wife was arranging some of here paperbacks (she has probably a couple hundred) and moving some of her knick knacks. She pulled out some books from one shelf to put on another. There was the lost prescription bottle behind her books..... on a different shelf..... across the room.

I've never "SEEN" ghosts, but I still have "feelings" about places.  I also sense noises, and occasionally smell things.  I call it "Bad Juju".  My current house used to REEK of tobacco smoke, and whiskey, except that  we didn't drink or smoke. (we found out later that the previous owners had both died of the DTs.)  We had the place Blessed the next day, and it's been "clean" ever since.

The thing I remember most of all, though, happened in England.  It was my first trip, and I went with my friend to what was 'then' my favourite Cathedral.  I knew nothing about the place, other than seeing a picture of a needlepoint  design based on its famous vaulted ceiling..

The row inside the building was so bad that I had to leave:  Screaming, crashing metal and the smell of blood.   What I didn't know is that Henry VIII had ordered the "De Sanctification" of  Canterbury, complete with destruction, pillaging and every sort of sacrilege.

My friend is the one who told me the history...after she found me outside.

This did not happen to me but to my youngest older sister.
 1983
My Father died on Oct 2  of that year . My sister B. was closest to him. A week after his funeral my sis had talked to a co-worker on how sorry she was on not keeping his obituary from the news paper. A full +week goes by and my sister B. is standing on a Chicago down town street waiting for the bus. Suddenly on a very calm clear day the wind kicks up outta nowhere and a ratty news paper does wind swirls around her feet. One page, in the middle was Dads obituary. Explain that.
Extreme coincidence or something else?

To add to that story we had a family party years ago and B. finally told us the extension of that story.
It was many years after Dad passed away and B. had not thought about that clipping in years.
In 2003 on what would have been Dads B-dayr she found that clipping on the floor of her bedroom. No one but her husband and siblings ever knew that story.

By the way WL - I didn't mean what you've been through is great - I just like hearing about paranormal stuff from someone who's actually experienced it -  :)

Phantom smells are some of the earliest things that we experienced here. Mostly in my room. Cotton candy ,vanilla ,bubble gum ,aromatic tobacco (we don't smoke either) spaghetti sauce or Chili. All times of the year ,windows closed. It happens suddenly and lasts anywhere from a few minutes to a couple hours. It used to be frequent ,like at least a couple times a month. I think it's been at least 6 mos since the last time.

A few summers ago my wife & I took a tour of the Winchester Mystery House. There was a hallway on the top right side of the house that made us feel sick to our stomach after we walked through it. It took us around an hour or two to feel OK again. We walked on the lawn on the left front side of the house (on a warm summer day) and there was one spot on the grass that felt very cold, even though there we no air conditioners around. 'Cannot figure that one out.

Let's keep the ball rolling. ANY weird thing you have experienced. I could post at least another 15-20 that stick out. Some huge , some kinda weird. All unexplainable.

Batman...
You're absolutely right about WINCHESTER HOUSE.  When I visited my brother, back in 1977, we all went to see WH.  It was a beautiful day:  Clear, sunny and blue skied.  There was nothing unpleasant about WH: no sense of evil, sadness or upset.  The only thing was that it felt like a Night Game at Candlestick Park.  The fog was so thick and dank that you could smell it....except that it was a balmy, clear day in late August.

Nothing creepy.  Just FASCINATING...
