Both LPs are really good. But with KISS' first album I am not a fan of the recording. KISS' first demo, was recorded by Eddie Kramer.....and way better than the s*** recording at Bell Studios by Ritchie Wise amd Kenny Kerner.
Are those demos available, or bootlegs? I still think these were their best songs ever.

I think so. There is a 2001 KISS boxset with them. There maybe a CD or two with the Demos.

These versions are raw. I love 'em.

The Buzzcocks  - Singles Going Steady

Great title for a hit singles collection, great singles to back it up.

Talking Heads - Fear of Music

This is my second favorite T.H. album (behind '77).

I agree with both of you guys. Those are the best songs, and yet the sound quality is terrible. Same thing with Hotter Than Hell (another classic). Too bad. I don't know why they can't clean those up. I'm assuming the master tapes disappeared and that's reason.

Unfortunately in my opinion, Universal won't invest.

Maybe the masters were destroyed in that massive Universal lot fire. Countless masters stored there were lost for good, ten years ago.

Over twenty years ago the KISS catalog was supposedly Remastered on compact disc. Hotter than Hell and a couple other studio albums, regardless of the remastering still did not make a difference.

Maybe the master tapes for Hotter than Hell are long gone. I believe Gene has the masters albeit he denies the claim in interviews.

Why would an artist do that? I would think he would like to present his music in the best possible way. Unless he's one of those "anti-digital" guys. I remember Paul Westerberg (The Replacements) storming the offices of Twin/Tone Records, hellbent on destroying the masters to all his records. He thought they should only be available on vinyl. I'm not sure how successful he was.

I really do not know. Gene claims( in interviews and me reading posts on KissFaq) he likes the keep everything. Probably to eventually make money on the product.
If there are masters out there, then they are in a vault, that some KISS super collector has kept. Those type of super collectors are private. Like for example, John 5.

Never heard of John 5, but it's kind of a dick move. Maybe they will be available for remaster when every Kiss fan has died. Btw, have you seen those beautiful Kiss Destroyer boxed set of figures? They are packaged like a vinyl record box set and include Reaction figures of the lads in different Destroyer outfits. Really cool. Barnes and Noble have them.

I can't comment on John 5's collection, but he seem like cool guy in other ways. Originally from Detroit area, he lives in Hollywood now. Played in Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson. More importantly he likes all the stuff we like on this forum. He's always repping the Universal Monsters and other classic horror films. He's also huge Sabbath, Alice, and Kiss fan. His band "John 5 and the Creatures" is a direct nod to CFTBL i believe.
